Cloudy windshield
My 1988 930S, 60,000 miles, has developed a cloudy white area in the bottom left hand corner of the front windshield. I don't see any obvious reason or any hint of a water leak that might be causing the discoloration. The weatherstripping is original but looks in great shape and is quite pliable where it abuts the body. The car is not driven in the rain and stays in the garage except for an occasional weekend drive. The rest of the windshield is totally clear.
I have tried wiping the area, both inside and out, with Windex but that had no effect. It is almost as if the discoloration is in between two layers of glass. (Not sure if this windshield is solid or made of various layers.) Any thoughts? Thanks. |

Possibly could be delamination.

That is a deterioration of the plastic laminate layer between the two layers of glass. It is just a sign of aging. Nothing can be done to repair it except a new windshield. And I don't think anything could have done to prevent it. It doesn't really seem related to inside/outside storage conditions or much of anything else. Just aging.
It used to onset sooner than it does these days which I'm sure is because of changes in plastics chemistry. So some age quicker than others (just like Us!). My SC little to none of the issue yet, while my Honda CRX displays quite a bit of it. As long as it doesn't progress into the major viewing area it's a cosmetic issue only. |

Cloudy windshield
930slant---A possible reason is ,when you wash your 911 is there a slight lean to that side after you wash it,reason water will sit in that side windshield seal, even if you dry your car off moisture can sit inside the seal and cause this.
Brings up another matter how many times do we wash our cars, i believe far to many times, i do mine once a year, but use a damp chamois to dry every time i finish driving my car, then cover it until used next. And depends on how and where we drive them. |

Delamination. Mine did the same thing. Pulled the window out to find rust in the corners of the seam. Ground it down to clean metal and treated it with POR-15.

Yep, this is a water-entering problem. I found it to be more common on cars that are frequently hand washed and put away damp/wet, or, simply, cars that get left outdoors in bad weather. Replacement required to fix. Always replace the rubber seal when replacing the windshield, the seal is probably most of your problem; it has allowed moisture to enter.

Hey, Thanks for all of the replies. Delamination is my hope rather than a leaking seal and rust. All of my seals appear to be in good shape and I always dry my car immediately after washing it. In any case, I'll live with it until its gets much worse.
I've heard so many stories about problems associated with leaking gaskets after replacing a windshield. That is one reason I've avoided replacing my rear windshield even though the plastic insert has worked its way loose in some places over the years. Thanks again. |

My windshield delaminates in the same area on my 77 Targa. Insurance company paid for a new saint goblin w.s.I provided an OEM Porsche gasket, installer did a great job. Most insurance companies have glass coverage with no deductible. I have State Farm, no problem...
