I appreciate all the input, went down and brought it back today. The weather was a bit cold (next time figure out the defroster before the window freezes). As many of you said, I had a blast. I may just take another day off work to clean it up or drive it again.
Thank you for your input. Thom So now that the check has cleared, car has been titled, I need to go get it. The car is near NYC and I work in Rochester NY, 375 miles away. The options are a commercial carrier, rent a truck and trailer, hop a plane and drive it back. In general they are all the same $$ but driving it back would be logistically better right now due to time available. I really dont want to have it hauled by commercial carrier as I need to be there anyways, so what do you think?? I appreciate your help ![]() Last edited by thomschoon; 04-02-2003 at 06:16 PM.. |

It is an '81 Euro with some upgrades. I am just a bit cautious about discovering a new "opportunity" while on the way home, but then again

Join AAA gold group in case you need towed.
Did you get a PPI? That would tell you if it will manage 300mi.

I took the plates off my SC jumped on a plane and drove the 930 home. A few close calls with the police almost pulling up next to me before I turned to avoid them checking out my plates. I was banking on them not knowing the difference. It was a real bonding experience.

Hi there,
I'll be driving to Rochester from Rockland County, about 25 miles Northwest of NYC. Wouldn't mind delivering it to you! I'll be going with my wife and kids to visit the in-laws in Brighton on Wednesday, April 16th. I would treat it as my own. But would have to get the green light from the wifey. I'm sure you'll want it before that, but thought I'd offer my services. regards and congrats!!

Hi Thom,
I'd absolutely drive it!!!!!!! This being your sixth car now?, you might not have that many chances to drive her? Did you buy the 81 euro you were looking at about a month ago? Glad to hear it, I'm sure it's a beauty and you gotta love those euro models for the extra ponies alone. Goes without asking, but pics please??????? Congradulations and have a great drive - oh yeah, and visit more often ![]()

Drive it back. It'll be an adventure to remember a lot longer than having a truck drop it off, for better or for worse.

I just picked my my first 911 (84 Carrera Coupe) from LA and drove it back to San FRancisco (about 385 miles) - I was a bit nervous but all worked out, plus it gives it a good "road worthy" test. Worst case scenario: you're a day late getting home.

Just a suggestion, but try to leave early enough to get home during the daylight. That way if electrical gremlins strike or something else untoward happens, at least you will be able to
see what is going on. When I bought my '80 911SC coupe a couple of years ago, I had to drive about 250 miles to get home. After dark, I started having trouble with the lo/hi beam switch plus the headlights were adjusted to shine on the front bumper. In a "new to you" car, daylight is your friend! Good Luck, Fred Cook '80 911SC coupe P.S. I'd still drive the sucker! |

Driving my newly purchased 73S home from LA to Seattle (1,250 miles) was great! You can read the whole story here:

I used to make that drive all the time when I was in school....I say trhow caution to the wind and DRIVE! And DON'T take the highways...there are tons of good "backroads" through NY state that wil get you to Roch. if you boot it a bit, and the scenery is loads better.
Shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to give you some route suggestions. AAA and daylight are great suggestions'
