915 oversized pinion bearing insert

Treating my 915 with some new parts and my pinion bearing race is spun, which is pretty normal in alu 915's i guess. Considering a Loctite solution, but I think there is too much play for this to last very long.
I know the right fix is offered by several companies in the US, but in Denmark, where I roll, I dont know any. Since the main shaft race is OK, I dont want to throw money after a very expensive "8" shaped machining job offered by a German company + shipping. Since I am on a budget, I just want to fix the pinion race.

Any experience with this bearing? A local machine shop should be able to insert this.
My original race does not have that outside groove though. Why is it there?

I suppose a machine shop could bore the case a specific amount, BUT, How are they going to find the original center of the bore? The bore probably didn't wear evenly all around, but likely pushed the pinion bearing away from the ring gear.

Maybe is better to just use the one piece bearing holder.
Regards.

How do the folks that do the repair with an insert do it?

Call 310-641-7019. Ask to speak with Dick. He co-owns Engine Machine Service (EMS) in Inglewood, CA. Dick has done my 915s for 25+ years.

Claus,
Have you tried Schönemann there in Denmark?

I havn't measured, but I think JW is right - the bore is most likely oval or at least off center now.
As I undertand it, the one piece bearing retainer mostly supports the thrustbearing, but could it be used to locate the center of the bore behind it? Just an idea - I'm not a machining guy.
I will try Lars Schönemann. I know of him and his racecars, RSR's etc.
I am actually considering shipping it to CMS in Ca., since the price for a job like that in Europe would be approx. 1000$ plus shipping. Danish customs will tax my pants off though.

I took my sc trans case to a local machine shop and they knurled the bore and used a bearing loctite product. Has held up for years.

Hi Claus

Hopefully your Danish connecions can help.

Otherwise Twinspark in NL appear to be high-end on fixing this sort of thing, but not cheap. Good luck

The slope is not slippery; in fact it is entirely frictionless.
