Wevo Ultimate Shifter.

Does any one have one of these installed in there car? Was interested in it. It's pricey at 595.0 but it would be cheaper then new robotec coupler short shifter and gate housing.

In all honesty this is something new and not to many people addressed if it was worth it or if it really improved there shifting. So please if any one has one of these please comment so I can make an informed purchase.

Never had one...

...because the WEVO price is really steep.

If your shifter's a little sloppy, or the characteristics are just plain bad, try installing new shift bushings first. I did this to mine, and it made quite a difference in feel (read: more accurate shifting and haven't nicked reverse since the installation).

Most of this was pretty well covered in depth a few weeks ago by a thread started by Calspeed. I responded a few times. I've been using one for the past 6-8 months, it's great. The shifts are short & precise in a way you can't imagine until you try one. It's way above anything else on the market. If that's what you want then the Wevo is the way to go.

Crash,

Make sure if you install the Wevo that you put in an updated coupler as well. They recommend this and it makes the shifting action amazing.

But remember the basics, smooth shifting saves the valves, even the Wevo can be muscled into the wrong gear if you shift in anger......I found out the hard way, but I still love my Wevo

I shouldn't beat this to death either, but there are other options. I'll leave it at that.

Sherwood - can you tell me the differences/advantages of the Seinesystems shifter over the Wevo, aside from price - maybe in a PM, so we don't "beat" this thread anymore.

Thanks.

Aww, let's go ahead and flog this thread. I sent you a PM that may also be of slight interest to others.

<
From my understanding, the WEVO shifter does not include a shift housing, same as my setup. They apparently replace some of the internal shift mechanism with their own. You can compare their parts (they have an exploded drawing on their website) with the factory shift housing. I can email you both if you'd like.

The concept of my kit is the same as the Robotek version. This is basically an add-on device to add spring tension to the 1st/2nd gear shift plane. All these kits provide that feature. I prefer to keep engineering and design simple and straightforward, and that's what I think the Gate Shift kit provides. I don't think $300 for Robotek's version is worth the cost which is why I produced my version for less. This also applies to WEVO's price point at twice the price of Robotek's. Perhaps their marketing design of perceived value works with a lot of people. And then there's the one being sold by Performance Products for $1500.

BTW, I'm going to introduce a modification to use the Gate Shift kit with a 901 gearbox (66-71 911).

Thanks for inquiring.>>

Note: This message is not intended to criticize other products which, I'm sure, work fine. My apologies if it sounded like it did.

Sherwood,

Everything that you state about the simplicity and cost of your design is spot on!!!!

I have driven both your setup and the WEVO shifter and here is just my $.02 concerning the differences.

The feel and short throw of the WEVO is incredible compared to even a factory short shift kit setup. I could even go as far as saying that I like it better that the 993 that I drove last week. The WEVO also moves the shift handle up closer to the driver to minimize hand movements during spirited driving. The distance between gears is incredibly shortened. I loved it......

Your kit is wonderful and it is a 100% improvement over the factory design and it is probably the best upgrade that a person could do for their 915 transmissions while retaining the stock look and feel. Great setup......

You are correct in saying that both kits are designed to function in the same manner, it just comes down to price and preference.

I am only mentioning this because the subject was brought up by someone else, but I am working on something that slots nicely between Sherwood's and WEVO's shifters for cost, yet ranks high on the value scale.

It will have an all new billet shift housing for half the cost of the WEVO. Adjustable bias springs, self centering, choice of 0,18, or 30% shift throw reduction, etc.

About 2-3 weeks ETA. I would recommend you save your WEVO money until you at least see what I have to offer.

Thanks to all comers, private and commercial who have jumped in with validations and clarifications about our WEVO shifter product.

I think it is fair to say that our product and Sherwood's shifter product do not go head to head technically or price wise.

The WEVO shifter is a short shift, precision instrument that replaces virtually all the original components in the 915 shifter base casting.

No other aftermarket 915 shifter uses this philosophy and no other aftermarket 915 shifter with the features of the WEVO 915 shifter is a straight forwards bolt in kit with no drilling or cutting.

We have attempted to satisfy all style tastes for both stock and non-stock looking shift levers, all designs have our unique functional features.

As the designers and manufacturers we are somewhat distanced from the retail prices, that are established by the resellers who have investment in their own marketing and inventory.

It is fair to say there is room in the 915 shifter market for the various different styles. We can all agree that spending any money on the 915 shifter mechanism will improve your driving pleasure.

If my budget required that I spend under $200 I would not hesitate to purchase Sherwood's shifter upgrade, If I could spend more I would not hesitate to spend the extra on the WEVO shifter. For once I think all customers are well catered for by quality products.

For those with a historical interest, the costly gated handpiece available from Performance Products is manufactured to drawings from WEVO. We discarded this design and our own version of the product when we superseded it with the WEVO GateShift kit in 1999. The WEVO GateShift kit inside the transmission is a completely different device and offers an even higher level of control and precision - beyond any shifter upgrade, but once again at additional cost....

I love my Wevo, and still use the factory coupler. It is one of the best enhancements i have made. The quality is amazing and the design is simple.
