Can I reuse this gasoline?

As an emergency measure I had to drain my gas tank - broke a hose while changing the fuel pump. I collected the gas in a construction-grade trash bag inside a trash can. The bag was intended to keep the gas as clean as possible.

Can I reuse this gas? If so I'll scoop it and pour it back into the tank through a funnel. Hate to waste 12+ gallons.

But not sure what being stored in the trash bag will do to the gas.

Minimize your risk in reusing by filtering it through a t-shirt (t shirt wrapped over a funnel) and then use the gas in your lawn mower not your Porsche.

Not ideal. But perhaps best to be safe. Not having a lawn mower, I'll need to figure out how to dispose of it, if it comes to that.

I'd put it in the truck.

You may find it very difficult to dispose of the gas legally. Where I live it is next to impossible. If the gas is fresh and you have a line filter why not put it back in the Pcar?

+1

Use the t-shirt for the primary filter. Put it in a bucket to see it's condition, though. If not clean as a whistle, get rid of it.

I drain the leftover gas from my boat every year. I put it in my truck a quarter tank at a time and fill the rest of the way with fresh gas. I figure it's best to use it in something that will burn through it quickly.

Assuming it's got ethanol in it, be careful to not let any water get in it. It can lead to phase separation, then you've got a real disposal problem.

As long as it's clean and hadn't sat out so long that it gets "stale" or pick up moisture, I'd use it.

I reused some of the gas. I figured whats the difference between a plastic gas can and a Home depot bucket, besides the lid and vent. Filled it, covered it and poured it back in an hour later. Looked very clear. had another batch in another container that started getting cloudy; did not reuse that.
Thanks for the advice.

12 gallons of gas sounds like a righteous youtube video. Post quickly before the cops get you though....
