Boge strut question
Ordered some Bilstein HD inserts for Boge struts. They arrived with a different style cap / wiper seal (external vs internal thread). Anyone have a source for the correct caps? Looked at a few places online and no luck yet. Thanks.

What year is your 911? The late1985 model year had two different styles. Early and late models.
But since we don't know what year you have advice is 100% guess.

I'm pretty sure the struts came off an 88 Carrera.

They usually come with both types of caps. I would call Bilstein and ask for the correct ones. I've given away my extras or I would send you some.

Thanks, I'll double check the box and follow up with Bilstein if they aren't in there.

Curious, this looks like the right one for my midyear Boge that I replaced. I didn't know the caps come off. So isn't this for the early Boge strut with 3" caliper spacing? Do the Carrera Boge struts have 3.5" spacing?

Early Boge Bilstein strut, like the one shown in the top picture, is part #34-001127
The Carrera Bilstein insert for Boge strut is part #34-001141 What is the part #on your invoice? or the insert?

I believe it's the later struts that have the external threads as shown in the pictures. My '87 and '86 911s with original Boge struts both have used the Bilstein nuts that are female thread (struts with external threads as pictured) when installing new inserts.
Cory, I have a set of good used Bilstein inserts in the basement that were "discarded" by a friend's shop when he had the Boge struts converted to JRZ. I'll look at those inserts tonight and see if I have the nuts are still with the inserts.

Here is a picture from my HD conversion a few years back, yours have a different style of nut. I don't recall mine coming with anything else.

Cory,
Here’s my set if you want them. Unfortunately Tim zipped them off with an air hammer and mangled the tool slots. Which also boogered the scraper seals a little bit. Tim runs a shop and seems most anything he takes off the cars is expected to be junked I’m sure if you call local Bilstein they can set you up with what you need ![]() ![]()

Thanks Kevin! I'm actually only a few miles from the Bilstein warehouse. They aren't really set up for walk up customers, but I'll see if they can help. I'll let you know if that doesn't work out. Thanks.

Problem solved. Confirmed that the inserts Bilstein originally supplied were for an early model, exchanged them for the correct later Carrera inserts. The dampers were identical but the caps are different and no one seems to list them separately. Thanks to all who offered support!

Strange. When I order them from our distributor, I get both types of caps in the box.

Sweet. I'm glad you didn't need my gnarly mangled spares.

I had to do the same with my Upgrade to Bilstein sport inserts to Boge strut. I order my caps directly from Bilstein.
