84 911 - Alarm Goes Off When Trying To Start
I haven't driven my 1984 911 in a few months. Got in this afternoon, and whenever I tried to start the car the alarm would sound. It would immediately turn off when I stopped trying to start the car.
I'm handy but definitely not a mechanic. Any ideas on where to start with troubleshooting? Will disconnecting the battery for awhile reset things? |

Does the car start?
Not to sound obvious but could the alarm key in the door be turned to activate? Does the car start? I thought the alarm came out in 85.. I can be wrong, and i probably am. My area is my 86. Check your door contacts and grounds..

My '84 has the alarm. I'd try to cycle the alarm key a couple of times and then disconnect the battery for a few minutes and try again.

So, worked on it today.
Car starts, but alarm still blaring after car is running. Disconnected the battery for about 5 minutes, and it didn't change anything. Going to see if disconnecting overnight will make a difference. |

I don’t think it will. Search for an electrical diagram.
Maybe start with the switch in the door. It has a plug, 2 prong. Goes to ground and the control unit. Then check the control unit and it’s pin outs to the various components.

Maybe disable it.
You just have to make a short jumper wire for two contacts on the alarm module. Can't remember which, quick search should find it.

Yep. Did it.
Getting to the module wasn't easy, but it also wasn't too difficult. With time, patience and creative use of tools was able to make it happen. The jumper method worked well. Car starts and doesn't wake the neighbors (from the horn at least). Thanks for help, links and advice |
