automatically logged off

What can I do to prevent myself from being logged off when I am typing a rather long post?

It appears I am being logged off automatically as the site senses that I am inactive?

Thx
hughc

I wonder if it'd be device specific? I don't think it is the site. I'm using a desktop/win10 and never seemed to get bumped.

Well if it is a device problem (I'm using a laptop) I have no idea how to correct it.

understood, just trying to help you narrow it down.

It doesn't appear to be a configurable item in your PP acct/user control panel.
What type of laptop, OS, and browser? Saw something abt Firefox, that setting FF to never remembering history could do this. I dunno much abt Apple/safari.
How's your service provider?

Maybe check with the Pelican folks to see if they have any hints or check back.

(psst, mention a P-car tech issue and maybe the mods will let this stay here ;-)

It is the site software Pelican uses. I've searched before to see if there was a setting to increase the time.....to no avail. It is a real PIA to me when I find a good thread, get called away for whatever reason and come back to find I've been timed out. Any unread posts on the next click then change to show they have already been read....

If this were true, I'd be getting kicked off too - and it ain't happening.
My money is on the browser (settings) or connection.
Besides, PP would have nothing to gain by chucking folks off.

....maybe. But, it happens on all of my devices if left idle for 30 minutes or so.

We do not have any settings that would auto log you off if you've been away for an extended period of time. I checked the user settings for myself and hughc and they're identical.

I am never, ever logged off of Pelican unless I click Log Off. iIt has never happened and the browser has been left open for literally days when I have gone away for the weekend and forgotten to close the browser. It certainly is not a pelican site setting.

Check to see if you have disabled cookies in the browser you use. If so, enable them, reboot and see what happens.

If you use IE, try chrome and see what happens.

Ditto on leaving it on for days at a time in the garage laptop if called away by something.

You have a couple different things being discussed here.
- Having an active continuous session composing/editing a post.
- Being logged into the site.

As to editing: I've had posts sit for hours while I've left while composing them. It isn't happening server side unless you are on when the system backs up (Somewhere around 2 - 3 am Pacific).

Wayne would know if there was any log out 'feature' as he has programmed almost all of the site personally.

I would suggest listing the browser you are working with to see if that shows some correlation. (I run Firefox with No-Script on PC and Chrome on Android)

Since I'm rather weak in the way lap tops are set up I guess I'll have to see a professional to determine if the problem I'm having is with my unit.
Thank you all for your replies.

There have been times when I have taken some time to write a post, though less than 10 minutes and got logged off. I made it a habit that once I finish and before I click the post button I copy it then if I got bumped off the aggravation is minimal.

Compose your message in Word or Notepad, and when you're ready to post, copy and paste the text into the Pelican message box and post it.
