Tire size question

I have 225/50/16 in the back on 8J16.
Some say that 245 will work, is it really the case?

Here is how the car looks now with 225.

Bill V. I am sure will chime in but it may be close. That fitment is no problem for an SC. I will defer to Bill on your 76

SC flares were installed on mine sometimes in the 80s.

Ok, thank you.
It sounds like 245 with 8j16 should be fine.
Wish someone with the exact setup to confirm.

While there is some variability w/ add on SC/Carrera fares you should have no issues w/ 245/45 x16 on 8ET10.6

The preferred wheel is a 9ET15 though

BTW the J part just describes the wheel profile and is generally not important wrt the usual wheels we use.

diameter, width and ET are what are important

in Germany the Porsche spec guidline for TüV is 9x16.
No chance to get passed with 8x16 with 245s

Most people go by the tire manufacturers spec

for 245/45 x16 that is 7.5" to 9" for most of the lines I know of,

TüV is it's own speciaal case

Is anyone running 225/55/16 on the rear tires of the SC ? 8" rim width.
I'm getting ready to replace my worn 225/50/16's and thought the increased sidewall height
might be a better fit. thanks

well, in this case, it's not a TüV-thing, it's the Porsche spec published: it won't allow 245/45 with any other rim than the 9x16.
And honestly I'd only want it that way, as the wider tire just sits better on the wider rim.
But hey, if you guys can pass a 245 on an 8", go ahead.

the '55 will slightly "baloon" the tire. and it may rub now when it did not before.
plus, what that does to drivefeel I can only guess.. more wobly?
Just get new 225/50.

...
Hard to believe that Porsche wouldn't follow manufacturers spec. I did look through alkl of the Porsche published data wrt wheel/tire. No such statement.

Please document your claim, otherwise it needs to be filed under more false news

Hey Bill, Paul just postet the link above to the Porsche-List I am refering to.
This is what TüV relates to.
there is the 9x16 listet with 245, the only combination of that sort (9x15 is not listet, but this passes TüV too).
But no chance for 245s on 8x15/8x16.

USA may handle this different.

Those are just the tires that Porsche used when the cars were new, It says nothing at all about other wheel/tire combinations the only admonition is to use an N spec of the same make and type and speed index, This is pretty silly as tire availability is a very nebulous area, they come and go at the tire manufacturers whim For instance there is not a single tire type that was oe on say '86 Carrera that is now available. Sizes yes, updated N spec yes.

The ultimate authority is the tire manufacturers spec, Though I can certainly imagine local authorities insisting that only original equipment specs be used to pass local regulations.

In the US not even the tire manufacturer's specs are looked at very carefully, I don't live in Canada but do believe that the situation there is the same as in the US
