Question Exhaust Problems on a 3.6 conversion

Dear Friends,

I´m in the process of installing a 3.6 engine on a 1978 SC among all sort of problems I have this new one now that is the exhaust system

Basically the original exhaust system on the 3,6 os not fit in my assembly, just because the crossover pipe from left to right manifolds touches the shaft for the gear shifting fork on my 915 tranny

Also to make thing more difficult I´m planning to instal a original bischoff muffler with one inlet and 1 outlet

So, If I have to custom built a exhaust manifold to fit this application in some point or some how I´ll have to build a crossover from bank 1 to bank 2, then I wonder if I´ll not run in the same problem?!

Another Thing that I may do but I don´t know how is to run 2 direct manifold to the rear of the car ( such as in a 911 1976) but then I´ll have to weld 2 tubes on the bischoff muffler to accept Right and Left manifold and close the existing 1 inlet. Don´t know if it´s possible or not ?!

Problem is I´m not in USA and buy parts, new exhaust and new headers is out of cogitation

Basically what I would like to know is how this exhaust headers will look like to use my actual muffler

Also on my last picture that I "borrow" from design 911, it show the muffler that I have and the right and left exhaust manifold WITH A CROSSOVER from a 86 model.

Why this crossover on the 86 model fits well on the shifting shaft of the 915 and the crossover from the 3.6 does not? It seem the same to me

Thank you all in advance for the imput

Interesting. What is on there now? I have a '95 3.6 in an '84, and I'm using the 993 headers into some earlier muffler.

I had the same dilema when I put a 964 3.6 in my "80SC. By far the simplest solution is to aquire a used set of the thick flange '84-'89 heat exchangers and crossover tube. It's just a bolt on solution and will use your current muffler along with either a CAT converter or CAT bypass pipe. That's the solution I used on my conversion.

The reason the 964 3.6 crossover tube won't work is that it is a rather large rectangular tube that goes STRAIGHT
across to the other HE, whereas the earlier crossover is a round tube that has an angle shaped into it to clear the
clutch mechanism.

Dear Friends

Thank you all for the input, to me is very difficult to buy tis parts and ship out, heavy and big
So Let me ask you this, do you think it´s possible to use the 3,6 HE and bothe sides and fabricate a new smaller and round crossover pipe and even eventually wel new flanges to the existing HE, if needed?
Since the crossover pipe from the left is bolted but on the right side is welded and make part of the right HE

Thanks

If you know someone who can weld, anything can be done...but the length, size, and shape of an exhaust has a real effect on how the engine runs, so...ideally you'd want someone with real experience designing and tuning exhausts.
