Going around in circles with 16x7 RE11 tire sizes
 

There are lots of posts lots of info but few combinations of like brands that work.

I have 16x7 and 16x8 fuchs. I have already decided on 245/45/16 RE11s for the rear.

I have rolled fenders and bilsteins and from what I can tell good bushings.

Should I go with 205/45/16 205/55/16 or 225/45/16 or 205/50/16 for the front if I am buying RE11for the front as well.

Bridgestone has a $70 rebate if you buy 4 today btw.

Can't recommend 245 on an 8. I have 205 on my 7s, 225 on my 8s and 245 on my 9s.

Agreed. If you’re going for performance, that’s too much tire in most cases. The 205/225 plan is a better one.

245s bulge terribly on an 8. If you're drag racing, it is OK. For cornering, not so much.

So 7-8mm spacers and 225 50 or 45 for the rear then? 205/55 50 or 45 for the front?

depends on what you are looking for

I assume that ultimate grip isn't the main priority else RE71R would be your choice.

So 245/45 though better on a 9 is ok on an 8. section width on a 9 is ~10"(254mm) on an 8 it is ~9.6"(244mm). Tread width of course stays the same and there is a very minor change in OD, not enough to worry about. You'd get a bit more grip from this tire on a 9 than on an 8.

I don't believe that R 11 is available in a 205/50x16 or 225/45 x16size

Matching front on a 7 could be 205/45 or 205/55. Each has + & -
/45: avoids and clearance issue due to shortness but optics are a bit odd due to the same shortness OD is ~23.2" compared top 245 OD of 24.7"

/55: @ 24.9" OD a good match for 245's 24.7" OD, On lowered cars there can sometimes be some lip interference but it's not likely for most especially w/ rolled fenders and more stockish ride height.

You'll get about the same grip from either version 205

225/50 could fit on the 7s but there is a far greater likely hood of interference

i run 225 and 245 RE11's on 7&8x16's on my 914. they are wide, but don't bulge terribly. handling is lights out, but that car is really set up and obviously not a 911.

for your fronts go with 205/55 16, like the factory did

245s on 8s look much better than I expected. I do prefer the 205 fronts for lighter steering.

I did not even consider the 71Rs since they did not come in the 245 and I wanted the "big ass/RSR" look for the rears. The Re71 don't come in a 245 so these would have to be a 205/55 or 205/50 and 225/50 for the rears. For $500 shipped after rebate they do make a compelling case for value/grip even if they don't give me the look I was going for on Magnus's SC Stance Works - Magnus Walkers 78SCHR Budget Porsche 911SC Build

I'm aware he probably had camber plates. Thank you everyone for your input. I guess I'll pull the trigger once I know which fronts will go better on the car if I lower it to euro ride height.

You have to remember that the wheel width affects the mounted tire section

225/50 x16 RE71 on an 8 has ~9.6" section width, 7.6" tread width, this is the max wheel width and results in the max performance of an outstandingly good tire
245/45 x16 RE11 on an 8 has ~9.6" section width, 9.1" tread width, the max wheel here is 9 which measures ~10" s/w & the same 9.1" t/w. Still a very good street tire but it just wont have the performance potential of the smaller 71

Ended up buying a set of RE71R 225/50 and 205/55 at simpletire.com After rebate they came to $471. Not bad. should I run a spacer in the back to fill the fender a bit better?

That's up to you, It does increase rear grip a bit which increases understeer, most do it for the optics

I'm after a bit of both for now. (New and first time 911 owner)

I run the exact same combo. Good stuff on 7&8s

I'm quite happy with the visual improvement I realized when I switched from 16x7 to 16x8 rear fuchs (running 225/50-16 tires on both).

I suggest you start without spacers and see what you think -- super easy to add spacers later

The RE11 are wider than the size suggests. This may be because they are somewhat "square" at the edges and not rounder like some other models. Because of this I would recommend the 205/55 at the front and 225 at the back
