I'm in love with this blue. It's spectacular!
Is the ECU bolted to the floor? If so, is any treatment needed to prevent rust on the metal after doing the hole? What colour is the fan going to be painted? I would like to paint mine and I'm still undecided about the colour... |

Thanks! I also love Minerva Blue. I am looking forward to the day when I can paint the rest of the car too! It is terribly faded. The fan will not be painted or powder coated, it will be ceramic coated. The coating is very thin and even, as well as durable. I'm going with black on the housing and silver on the fan itself, the downside to ceramic is the limited color choices, but it is supposed to hold up better then paint or powder on the fan edges. '80 and later SC's have the OXS/emissions control module bolted in place under the passenger seat (module now removed.) So the factory welded in some mounting tabs for it. I made a stainless plate and mounted the ECU to that, then mounted the plate to the factory tabs. No holes in the floor. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1520498144.jpg |
Cool. Thanks for the replies. I didn't know about the emissions control module.
I'll have a look into ceramic coatings. It seems that the fan blades are a hard environment for paint. |
Evan, the wiring in your post #220 reminds me, kinda, of a very recent job that I did (shudder!) on a '58 A Model coupe. The picture shows the old wire harness, which I replaced. Yes, it was a single harness before I made a couple of cuts simply to just get it out of the car! Good luck with yours!

That said, I absolutely LOVE wiring. Been doing it since I was a little kid, and I really enjoy the process. The harnesses are all in place now and I'm starting in on the final connections. We'll see which happens first, me getting done or the snow melting... |
Following this great thread. Keep up the super work Evan :)

A bit overdue for an update!
First off, let me finish off the 915 rebuild by sharing something I just learned: that the vent that is screwed in the top of the diff housing must have the vent hole pointing forward, or forward and slightly left. I had removed mine before the housing went to the machine shop and couldn't remember which way it went. Getting this wrong (that is with hole pointing backwards) means you'll have gear oil running down your newly rebuilt and installed gearbox when you drive. Glad I figured this out now! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522769641.JPG In other news I have been running wiring harnesses and making connections. It may not look like it but I have a huge pile of hours behind me spent in the engine bay getting everything wired up. I'm getting really close with that part. Next up was refinishing my engine shroud which was looking pretty bad. I sanded it down with 120 grit first to get the deep gouges smoothed out, then 240 grit, then wet sanding with 800 and 3000, followed by polishing compound and then wax. Its quite matte in appearance now, but much cleaner. I'm debating shooting it with satin clearcoat, but I do like the retro look. Tell me what you think. Pics: I love wiring! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770815.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770158.JPG Shroud before: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770158.JPG Sanding: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770158.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770158.JPG Done: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770158.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522770815.JPG |

Dang! Your shroud is B-U-TI-FULL!!!
Did you paint your engine compartment, or just polish existing paint? Whatever was done, it looks outstanding! |

The engine bay got a full repaint. It required a major cleaning to remove 36 years of grime, plus scraping all the sound pad glue off, coating with fresh bodyschutz (rubberized undercoating) then several coats of blue and two coats of 2-component clear. It was the opposite of fun. But it looks good now! |
I guess its a good sign when I've been too busy working on the car to post pics of what I've been doing. Time for an update! I’ll post pics and info over the next few days to get everyone up to date.
I finally got the engine bits, fan and housing back from the ceramic coating guy. It is safe to say that "garbage in garbage out" applies here, if the part is really rusty no amount of sandblasting will make it smooth again. But the good news is that I saved my heater flapper boxes and all the engine tins. The fan is a little rough, but way better then before so I'll live with it. Definitely pleased with the valve covers... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527003965.JPG I'll never win the TIG welder of the year award, but I did make a mount for the coil pack and fuel pressure regulator: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527003965.JPG And welded up an oil breather catch can... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527003965.JPG And the bung for the O2 sensor... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527003965.JPG ITB's are finally in place, need to finish the fuel lines and engine harness... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527005466.jpg Check this out! Ready to go back in the car! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527005822.JPG More soon! |

Looking great!
Do you have a base map for the ECU or will you be starting from scratch? |

Hi, Evan! I'm curious, what do you do about air filters/cleaners with that set-up? What am I missing...?
