Best Single Din Stereo

I know this is a wide-open question but my Blaupunkt Cupertino died today and I'm wondering what the best stereo is these days.

I don't need Bluetooth/phone or anything, just an aux jack and plenty of watts.

I know the first answer will be 'install a delete plate' and listen to the engine scream at 6000 rpms, but I'm a cruiser not a racer.

Any solid recommendations?

Thx!

My head unit is an Alpine back from when Eazy-E rapped about them, so I'm looking for recommendations too.

Best stereo depends on needs. Sounds like you just want music to play through an aux input. If that's the case nowadays even a Pioneer from WalMart will fit the bill. If you plan to add an amp, etc. its a whole different story.

Lookmup Continental car audio...same firm that makes tires, ATE brakes, VDO gauges. Model TR7412 UB-OR is one example. I recommend because these suit the 911 dash, and/but are pretty basic. For me, that's a plus. John in CT.

These look good. Looks like they come in blue and orange faces. https://www.vdo-gauges.com/radios/12v-radio.html

I’m finishing up an install of a TR7412UB-OR in my 911SC. Matches the interior very well, orange lighting, and Bluetooth, USB, and aux jack. $199 shipped, sounds good and easy install.

I have the Continental TR7412UB-OR as well. You really can't find another radio that fits better aesthetically in our cars.

However--they are bare-bones. No pre-amp outputs. This means they require some finagling if you want to hook them up to an amp.

I have the Conti TR7412 in my 930 and it fits the look of the dash quite well. It has Bluetooth and a usb port, which you may or may not use, but I like. The biggest downside for me was that there are no RCA outs. It is all line level outs to the speakers, so if you are running an amp, you need a converter to RCA or an amp that accepts line level inputs. I used a converter, but for premium sound quality, it cant be ideal. For my usage, it works fine for me though.

Here it is installed.

Which converter did you use? I have the Conti in my SC, and would like to add an amp.

This is the one I bought. If you have two separate amps, or a single 4 channel amp with 4 RCA inputs, then you need two of these.

Where do you buy the Continental radio? I’d love to replace the Sony that’s currently in the dash.

I got mine from egauges.com.
Not the best communication when it was backordered for a bit(I had to call them to find out after it didn't arrive.), But they did send it when they got it, so I'm happy.

On my 89 3.2 there seems to be an amp or something under the seat, assuming that's a stock amp how does a "new" head unit plug in? Also, can someone review the various options or features? E.g. what does bluetooth and USB mean? I'd like to have my iphone "connect" to the unit and use the speakers to hear what callers are saying and at the same time cut the radio station. I guess I also need a remote microphone or can I use the microphone on the iphone? I have that setup now in my DD (Tahoe).

I don’t know about the amp in an 89, but the iPhone connection you are referring to is called Bluetooth. On the TR7412, there is a microphone hole on the front of the unit. It also comes with the writing and mic for a remote mic install. I made a call with the car off and the person heard me fine, have not tried yet with the car running. I’m assuming the engine noise will be a bit of an issue.

I have my mic wired to my dashboard and I have used it while driving and it isn't bad at all. I also have a very loud rarlyl8 hooligan exhaust.
It's actually better than my oem 4runner Bluetooth.

Contact ToreB at Bergvill F/X, he has the Conti radios and adapters so no splicing or cutting of wiring is needed

The adapter works well if you are plugging in to the stock wiring harness and not using an amp. If you use an amp, you aren't plugging into the wiring harness.

What are the odds that the "install a delete plate" crowd put less than 500 yearly miles on their 911s?!
