Air Injection Smog Pump Port Plug - How Difficult

I still have the piping system on the '77 2.7. Looking to see how difficult it is to remove and plug with the part offered on the host site. Guessing similar Degree of Difficulty with removing exhaust headers? Heat it up, use Kroil, etc...?

Any other Tips? thanks!

J

It's a bit of work. It can be done without removing the HEs. Kroil, yes, will probably help where the air pipe threads onto the air injectors. I think there is one that is nearly impossible to get to. I used a small crescent wrench to get in there and break it loose.

If I remember correctly, you must remove the muffler as the check valve is bolted up through the bottom of the rear engine tin. There isn't a lot of space in there either. Again, I used two small crescent wrenches to unbolt the check valve.

1/8" hex head brass pipe plugs fit nicely. Cheap too.

Hi John - would the 1/8" hex head brass pipe plugs work on a 3.0 78 SC motor as well?

Looking to take mine off as well - pump has been out for years now.

Thanks Rob!
