Dear Friends
How do I remove the Steering wheel column? Mine is a little bit corroded and this column in assembled on top of the instrument vinyl that i would like to change as well I notice that on the PET file they say SHEAR bolt, so what does that mean? Itīs removable? Itīs reusable? Can I buy new ones? Thanks for the imput |

Inside the dash you will see a knob that is the remains of the shear bolt. (3 of them) . An air hammer bit should get it turning, or grind them off, or weld a nut on it, etc.

I encountered the same issue stripping my 78. found what John says, these bolts may need to be drilled out or cut out.
it appears when the bolts are tightened down the head snaps off. I read this was part of a security feature to prevent easy removal of the steering shaft and key interlock. at this point I am not sure if I'll pull my steering shaft to prep for the repaint. good luck.
