Drivers side window rattling

The drivers side window on my 84 Carrera rattles when it's anywhere in the middle of its travel. Passenger side is fine. Anyone have any ideas what the culprit might be?

something came loose for sure.

I guess you cannot avoid removing the door panel and lurk inside the door with a torch.

window

Just remove your door panel, you will see on left side about half way down
the adjustment bolt to move your window guide towards the front, usually
all you need is about 1/16.
What happens the front felt guide wears out and becomes sloppy
so this fixes the problem.
hope you understand my explaining.

I have the same issue and assumed the guide felt is worn out.

Wayne, are you referring to the height adjustment bolt in the lower photo below?

id think carefully before making window adjustments, especially with a targa as the window adjustments are very precise to make the correct seal with the roof and all weather stripping involved. If you can see if something is worn replace it, as making adjustments to compensate for it could be a long noisy road ahead in a Targa.

mine ratles too when I close the door with the window down , I chose to live with it for now because I lived the tale I tell. Relieved I got it back to original position in the end.

Does the actual window rattle, or is there a faint metallic/plastic rattling sound from within the door?

When I last took my windows out, I removed all of the nasty grease in the horizontal track where the plastic wheels run at the bottom of the window glass. Turns out, they are a very loose fit, and that grease helps prevent them from rattle around a bit in the track when the window is not 100% up or down.
So, my window glass doesn't move, but there is the faint sound of the plastic wheels moving around in the track, which sounds just like a rattle.

Those pics will help. It definitely sounds like the window but I suppose it could be something else. I'm going to have to remove the panel and figure it out. Thanks for all the information!

My WAG is a broken window regulator pivot. I had a rattling noise from my partially-opened passenger side door because of that. It would still go up and down, but had a rattle anytime it wasn't full-up or full-down.

If that's what it turns out to be, here's what I did to fix it: Window regulator pivot replacement

911 electric window rattle -- the fix!

Try this thread. It worked for me. The vertical adjustment of the Allen bolt for the inner rail did not fix my problem of a rattling window when open half way. What did work for me was the suggestion to add washers on the inside of the bolt to change the angle of regulators horizontal rail that is attached to the door and put a little tension on it.

UPDATE: I greased (heavily) the horizontal track and wheels as well as made an adjustment to the allen bolts (lowered a couple mm's) and everything quieted down. I was out over some various quality roads for several hours yesterday and not a peep! Was amazing how much noise that window was generating.

Better hope you never have to go back in and remove the window regulator! I solved the rattle issue with grease as you did. Several years later, window movement froze. It was due to a couple of the teeth of the nylon spur gear in the window motor assembly breaking and causing it to jam. Anyway, everything had to come out and it was a freaking mess dealing with all that grease! Wish I had never done that.
The window bottom channel are known to rust and weaken, allowing them to rock back and forth from the up and down forces. I think this contributes to the rattle. Mine was shot and had to be replaced. It works great and is quiet now with just a minimal application of white lithium grease for lube, not to quiet rattle.
