Rear Torsion Bar Question

Hey guys, I’m putting some Elephant 34mm rear torsion bars. Trying to figure which direction do they go in. On one side the splines are longer than the other so I’m guessing they’re meant to go a certain way.

Any idea which way?

the splines are different, try fitting a spline into your spring plate, only one will fit and that's the one that goes to the outside.

You’re right. The splines are different. Didn’t think of that.

any stamping on the end like size or an L or R should face out.

The reason for the different spline counts is to allow more precise adjustment. 40 count on the inner 44 on the outer.

Quote from Pelican "SWISSMADE"

"On the SC (not sure about 911s) the torsion bar has 40 splines on the inner end and 44 splines on the outer end.Moving the inner end 1 spline makes a difference of 9° which means about 8 mm. ride height.Moving the spring plate on the bar's outer end makes a difference of 8.18° which means about 7mm. in ride height. A 1° change in spring plate angle makes about 1cm. change in ride height. All very theoretical......I did mine about 4 times till I got it right."
