MAF back to AFM

Has anyone gone back; from MAF to AFM?

I have an Autothority MAF/Chip with giant K&N filter (put on the car 19 years ago). The car runs rich and idles high and I think this may be part of the problem. Also Steve W suggested I switch back when I contacted him about a new chip about a year ago... (maybe because it would be more expensive to program for the Autothority MAF? I forget)

What do I need to put it back together? How is it done? And don't say read a MAF thread then do it backwards

Just replace the MAF with the AFM, then open up the DME and replace the
Autothority chip with the original stock chip. Simple as that!

try the hot wire. it may be dirty. My maf is 26 years old. Only maintenance was replacing the potentiometer about 15 years ago due to its shutting down the system. I would not replace the MAF.

I swapped back. Too difficult to get the AFRs correct. The only thing I lost was some engine sound coming from the intake. Yes,all you need to do is swap the chip and MAF. Also you will have one extra 12v wire that powers the MAF to cap off.

If you got more questions contact Sal Carceller (scarceller screen name) on here.

I got the MAF sitting on a shelf. Anyone know what it is worth?

Thanks for the comments, sounds easier to do that I thought.

Do most people recommend sticking with the AFM/switching back?

If you have Sal's MAF system, you'd probably not switch back to the old AFM .

Sal's MAF

I had an autothority MAF on my 944 turbo years ago and switched back to my AFM and put in a different performance chip and all is well. I have been told the the stock AFM is designed to take up to 350hp.

I'd first try cleaning your AFM as referenced above and seeing if you can get your 3.2 running properly as-is.

My '86 targa has an afm/chip combo that my wrench developed. Around 30k miles after install, it too developed a rich condition, which my wrench resolved by cleaning the sensor.

It's otherwise provided me with a nice improvement butt-dyno-wise since install.
