Today's Trivia Question!
Was asked this question today, and I did not know the answer.
Which direction does the distributor turn in a 1976 Euro Carrera. A fellow bought one that was burned and didn't have the distributor and wanted to know which one he needed. My tech editor for the book didn't know either. All three engines that year (2.7 / 3.0 Turbo / 3.0 Carrera) used the same crankshaft. I saw a 3.0L engine that had points, like the 2.7 (clockwise), whereas the 3.0 Turbo used electronic triggering. However, the 3.0 Carrera engine was the precursor to the 911SC, which had the distributor turn counter-clockwise. If I were to guess, I would guess counter-clockwise, but as I said before, not sure... -Wayne

I'm not looking at my car right now, but from memory, I could swear it turns clockwise. I'm about 85% sure...

Not sure either, but since it's a Euro Carrera, it should be the same spec/direction as the MFI 2.7L RS.

That's easy, all the point type distributors 2.0, 2.2,2.4,2.7 and 3.0 turn the same direction, clockwise. The counterclockwise rotation was used from '78 on the SC and then back to clocwise again for the 964.

The part number on my 76 euro distributor is 0 231 184 007 and I probably spend way too much time watching it turn clockwise.

I need to amend my answer above
the distributors went back to clockwise rotation for the 3.2 Carrera in 1984 The only counterclockwise distributors were those used in the '78 - 83 SC
