What to do very few 15 inch tires avaliable anymore

It seems no one is making or selling 15 inch tires anymore. I'd love to buy some Michelin tires but they're no longer sold in that size.Where can I buy a high quality (not necessarily Michelin) tire in 15 inch size?

what specific size are you looking for? here's a link to a chart from porsche listing various "porsche approved" tires for "classic" 911s -- could be a good start? Porsche Tire approvals - Porsche USA

I put Sumitomo's on mine. They got good ratings on tire rack and they're working for me, but I'm not driving competitively.

I agree with your need to state the size. There are a lot of 225/45-15. Maxxis makes a 245/45-15.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?zip-code=&width=225/&ratio=45&diameter=15&rearWidth=255/&rearRatio=40&rearDiameter=17

Finding an RSR sized tire can be difficult/expensive.

Yes. 9s and 11s are harder.

Check the Coker Tires web site. They have 15 & 16 inch Michelin, but they are not cheap.

225/60R15 Tires | 225-60-15 Tire Size Online at 1010Tires.com
225/60 is an awful tall tire, the less torquy your motor the more it's height will be felt.

lots of good pointers above, but you aren't helping to provide direction w/o posting the wheel & chassis specs
wheel - width and ET ?
chasiss - narrowbody, SC/Carrera, turbo ?

Wasn't stock 225/50-15 rear and 205/50-15 fronts?

howsabout Toyo Proxies R1R? you can get them at 1010tires.com in 205/50-15 and 225/45-15

Tire rack carries BF Goodrich G force Rivals in this size combo too

-- going with shorter rear tires would give you a bit more pickup (at the expense of a SLIGHTLY higher engine speed at a given rpm).

stock for that car was either 185/70 & 215/60 on 6 & 7 x15 or 195/65 & 215/60 x15 on 7 & 8

either way the rear tire had an OD of 25.1" +/- ~.1"

P6000 is available 185/70 & 215/60, 215 OD Is 25.3" not enough Δ to matter much

for better gearing if you have 7 & 8 205/55 & 225/50 P7 classic or RA1 or Trofeo or 205/50 & 2225/45 Maxxi vr1 would be good choices as would 235/45 & 285/40 P7 Corsa( if you have 8 & 9.5)

My speedo reads 10 mph faster than I'm traveling with the 225/55s.

I had 15 inch wheels for many years. About 10 years ago the decent performance tires vanished. I had to start running mud and snow rated tires to get the sized that fit. They were not bad and it was nice to be able to drive the car in the cold winter days if I wanted.

I finally gave up and bought the 17 inch Fuch replicas, Euromeisters. Now I have good summer performance tires that are great. I can't drive them in temperatures that are below 40.

My wheels are 15 X 7 and I have run about 3 sets of Yoko Advan 205 X 50 from Tire Rack for years. Good tires for autox or track day and street.

The new Hankook RS4 and BFG Rival S 1.5 also come in a 245/40-15. They're short tires, but at least they're performance oriented.

The Hankook seems to be a better choice of the two for street + track, where the Rival S is a little better for street + AX.

Bill the rears were 225/50 not 55 typo. I have a gps radar detector and when I installed these tires the speedo was 10 mph off because of the reduced OD of 23". You've known me for 30+ years I wouldn't fib about that. I measured the OD on the /50 tires and it's 23 inches. If the recommended tire should be 25 inches than that's a significant amount of diameter decrease.
Thanks for your help.

mike -- believe the point that Bill's making here is that these cars were designed to run with 225/50 tires and that, while using a larger diameter than designed for may fix your speedometer discrepancy, it will do so at the expense of acceleration, as going with a larger diameter wheel has the same effect as increasing your gear ratios.

Porsche speedometers are notoriously optimistic, mine's around 7mph fast, but my odometer is spot on.
