I have health issues now and can not travel to a make up class.

Thank you, Lee

Lee,

The cancellation of the April 2020 Engine Rebuilding Workshop was not my fault. And we had it re-scheduled in September 2021. And the last one in April 2022. After expenses paid, there is less than $500 left from the registration fees collected per group. And I spent closed to 30 hours in total per 2-day sessions. I don’t even charge a penny for the use of the motors in the workshop.

I was not able to pay the helpers a penny including my wife who cleaned and mopped the toilet every day and Kevin McDonald for his time moving the motors, hoist, tools, engine stands, etc. to the venue and back home.

And thanks to the other members who could not attend and donated their fees to help cover the expenses. Please do the math, $550 per day room rental (2x), $400 miscellaneous expenses (supplies, special tools, tables, chairs, etc). Less than $500 left to pay for my time, and my helpers. The workers at McDonald across the street make more money per hour than me and you want a refund?

The only money I refunded were given to 2 members who were undergoing cancer treatments. Wished I could give more to help these people.

Tony

So getting the engines, equipment, tools, etc. would require some serious logistic undertaking.

I have a two-car garage/carport soon to be a 3-car parking space. If I park my ‘78 and ‘89 at my son’s residence which is only 7 miles away, there would be ample room to accommodate a small group (5 or less) for engine tear down or engine assembly class.

Take a look what a novice engine rebuilder could do:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LGSdRdyNVgc&feature=youtu.be

Watching the first 4 mins. of the video was not interesting until James Wirth (owner of the engine that I rebuilt to his specification) started passing every car on sight. Every time I watch this video, I could not believe I built this motor. It has about 280 Hp on the dyno.

I had no experience in engine rebuilding until I decided to work on my ‘78 SC more than 25 years ago because I could not afford to pay the shop. My only reference manual was Haynes. No internet, digital camera, and Pelican Parts forum did not exist then.

How about doing the first group/class for introduction to engine rebuilding in April 2018? Maybe before or after the Hershey Swap Meet? I will be away traveling in May 2018. The next available months would be June and July. August 2018 is another travel month.

Let me know what you guys want do about this idea. No more than 5 participants per class so there would more hands on experience for everyone. Reading and watching videos are good but there is no substitute to actually doing the job. BTW, I am not an authorized or trained Porsche mechanic nor an expert engine rebuilder. Just another DIY’er like most guys in this forum. Thanks.

Tony
Tony, That video was amazing. The sounds of that motor was unbelievable. INSANE!.. This is the true sound of joy. Great job!!
Cheers

Tony-

Certainly we all acknowledge that this was not your fault, or mine for that matter. As you advised multiple times, you would provide a refund to those who could not attend the make up classes...but we had to wait for you to refill the new makeup dates. In the spirit of the COVID craziness, I have waited for that (almost 2 years). I ask now that you fulfill your end of things and provide a refund since I can not attend for health reasons. I attach here our correspondence detailing the above.

Regards, Lee

Tony, your private mail box is full....so in response to you telling me to offer my seat to someone to apparently receive my refund??, my response has to be posted here:

Offer what seat? As I told you when the original class was cancelled and then rescheduled, I can not attend the rescheduled class. The seat is yours to offer, not mine.

And let me make this clear - I have no intention of giving you a hard time over $150 or whatever it was but, you told me from the beginning that you would refund my money and not to worry about that, except that I would have to wait until you had things organized.

So, I let it go and havent heard from you since May 2021. Now, per the above, it appears your position on the refund has changed, and you told me today to offer my seat to someone which I do not understand since I have no spot reserved.

I was scheduled to be in the April 2020 class (paid in full November 2019) that was cancelled due to Covid. I told you that since I lost my job because of Covid and eventually found a new job with different work hours, that I would not be able to attend any rescheduled class.

And now your advising me to offer my seat to someone else....so not sure where the disconnect is here

I would imagine that my seat was already given to someone else last year....?

For those in the April 18/19 class can we all agree to give Tony another $40 each to cover those seeking refunds since they werent able to get there during covid? Id rather do that than see these posts. Im out a couple grand in lost flights due to covid and the airlines told me to get stuffed.

On another note, Tony are the hotels listed in the post still valid? I vaguely recall reading that the venue may change?

Al,

There is a probability that the venue could be changed. The building we are using is for sale but no buyer at the moment. The owner of the building is giving me a special arrangement to pay a daily rental for the actual dates I used the room. So for the two-day sessions, I pay $550 per day (Total rental = $1,100).

Unlike the other commercial buildings in the area, I have to pay everyday I have my stuff and motors in the room. For one week, my rental would be about $3500. Unless I removed the engines and other stuff out of the property after the 2-day sessions, I have to pay the daily rent. Transporting the engines, hoist, tools, etc. is a logistic nightmare for me because I have no help but myself.

I have an alternate venue just a mile from the original venue. And for those people who wanted a refund will get their money back right away if they could find someone to take their seats. Otherwise, they have to wait.

Tony

I just re-registered for the May 2nd and 3rd classes after having to cancel last year and I would also be happy to do this as well. Anyone else want to start an additional $40 campaign? The tiny amount of profit Tony is seeing from these classes is a shame.

New Registration Fee..........

The new participants' registration fee was adjusted to $290 and those who paid $250 earlier are not obligated to pay the $40 adjustment fee. It would be optional or voluntary. I will conduct the workshop even if there are only 4 people or less attending the workshop.

This was never intended as a business venture. Being able to contribute to the community in some small way is priceless. Special thanks to those who donated their money to the program. Thanks to everyone.

Its obvious from your posts on here and the fact your hosting these classes that you have a passion for the brand, the engine and the tech. Ive been playing with Corvairs (air cooled GM product) for 25 years and there are guys like you involved in that marque too. If we dumb newbies dont take advantage of the knowledge & experience in the group it'll be our loss in the end. Fortunately for you your 8 hours away from me or else Id be in your face with coffees in hand till you chase me away. Im more than happy to support this class, and you, so that in the end I might only be a retarded newbie (I know retard is not politically correct any more but we are talking about engines so stuff it if your offended). Ill be bringing the difference with me as you shouldnt be behind after all of your efforts.

I can't stress how awesome this class was and how much we should all appreciate Tony's hard work to give back to the 911 community.

Hotel accommodations..........

Someone suggested to me about Air B&B accommodations around the area for the next Engine Rebuilding Workshop. I will be more than happy to check and inspect the quality of the place. All you need is a safe and clean room for 2 nights. PM me the information and I will visit the B&B ASAP and offer my recommendation.
