tire size options for stock steel wheels

1970 911T. Stock engine and transmission just rebuilt.
Plan for mostly road use with as many PCA DE days as I can.
Right now has stock 15x5.5 steel wheels, de chromed, painted matte grey.
Currently 185/70 all-season cheap tires.

What tire size is possible in terms of looks and fitment? Toyo R1R 195/55?
I know speedo will be way off.
One day I'll get Fuchs but suspension is next on list.

Thanks.

Personally I like the looks of the 185.65s on steelies. But for DEs, i used 15x7 Fuchs with 225.50s on all four corners.

185/70 x15 are 25.7" tall and fit well on 5.5

on those wheels you could use
195/50 @22.7", 195/55 @ 23.4", or 205/50 @23.9"

The difference in tire heights might look odd unless the car is lowered, also the 5.5 is at the low end of the range, great for comfort not so great for performance

I liked 195/60-15s on my 914 with same sized wheels back in the day. I ran 205/50s on my 914 as well with 5.5x15 wheels. Speedo will read high. Finding the right tire (R comp, near R comp, street etc) is perhaps the greater challenge in 15" sizes. I like the Falken Azenis 615 (I currently run 14" wheels where options are even more restricted than 15"s!)

195/65-15 is quite close to the original size.

I ran 205/60-15 on my 911 when I was using my 6x15 cookie cutters for street tires. Speedo was close to right. Tried a set of 205/55-15's but the speedo was off and it drove me nuts.

I am now using 205/55-16's on 6x16 fuchs. speedo is still close to right.

I ran 205/55-15s on stock chrome steelies on a 71 T Coupe. Was lowered about an inch, looked and drove right.
