Seeking a definitive answer...
The time is approaching for my biennial swap of exhaust systems to pass local emissions tests.
The car is an 86 3.2 with SSIs, SW chip, and 2-in 1-out exhaust. My plan is to do several chassis dyno runs and then swap back to the stock exhaust before repeating the dyno runs. I'm planning to keep the SW chip in place unless A/F ratios are way off during the stock exhaust measurements. Maybe I'll swap in the stock chip. Anyone care to comment on the procedure, or offer a prediction of the results? TIA |

My 86 on stock exhaust with a SW chip passed CO smog quite easily last month. I’ll see if I can find the results sheet.

If you run the SW chip with stock components, you'll probably see a larger gap in power with the SW chip and mods skewing actual stock to mods.
It'd reinforce you did the right things in regards to improvements falsely. |

I'm not concerned with passing emissions with the SW chip, it has passed before.
I'm more concerned with making maximum power while dyno testing the stock exhaust. I guess the best thing is to try both chips while I'm testing. |

That I couldn't help with. I have only dynoed my car with the chip in place on a stock exhaust. In fact it's how I discovered I had the chip because it was so much higher than expected that I pulled the DME and looked.
