Dashtop replacement / repair options

Good morning - my front window is out for a respray so now would be the time to repair or replace my dashtop.

It looks like replacement dashtops are around $1-1,500?

Are there cost effective repair options?

I am in SoCal if there are local shops to be aware of.

Thanks!

Thanks Roswell. Have you used them? Ballpark cost?

Is AIR still doing these?

Just Dashes still running $1200+ and 6 months?

In the UK, my guys at Awesome Upholstery offer a Porsche dash restoration service. Mine was split in two places and Greg splinted it from underneath and filled in the cracks and recovered it perfectly.

I can't say for certain if it would be cheaper, but I imagine it would cost a lot less than $1500 including shipping...

Skip... very $ effective option is DIY. Flip side is time one must invest. Forgot exact hours but am guessing 8. That's after having everything needed in hand. Cost for materials is maybe $80 give or take.

George Eshaghian (george@autoinno.com) recovered mine for less than $1000, and it looks great!

Tom - I've recovered two dashes myself with good results. Remind me when I see you next and I can show you the dash for my '75 that I recovered. It was a throwaway dash top and I'm really happy with the results.

Here's my DIY before vs after. My old dash was so bad and and had been "repaired" once before with sheet metal flashing and drywall screws.

I purchased a dash cap to create a smooth surface to recover. I used contact cement and 4-way stretch vinyl to cover the dash. It took a couple of hours and I'm in it about $150 for the dash cap, vinyl and contact cement.

It's a relatively easy DIY job so I recommend doing it.

used dashboard

I got a used dashboard in very good condition from a dismantler in Huntington Beach for $420 boxed and shipped to NJ but that was about 3 years ago. It's the larger vents for 86 to 89. Not sure if early ones are far more expensive.

The 2nd photo below shows when the one I ordered arrived (bottom piece) versus the old one which was warped on the AC center vents (top piece).
