x-faktory 911SC 3.0 w/EFI/ITB
So...as Steve S's very fine 73 w/3.2 is shipping out, my local R Gruppe friend Rick (RSBob) dropped of his very fine 1982 911 SC. This is a stock 3.0 with SSIs and sport muffler. Really a nice 911. We are replacing the stock CIS system with PMO/ITBs and MS2/3.57 (Megasquirt) ECU. Once again Dennis will provide the injector and TPS harnesses. ........
Steve's 73 headed home Rick's SC in the queue...... stay tuned............ regards, al

I love the clean light not over-stylized builds like these. That '73 is just lovely.

Very interested on this one, considering I also have a bone stock 3.0 SC with CIS and SSIs. Very curious about the improvements in responsiveness and drivability, as my CIS has moments of being temperamental.

matt,
The blue 73 has a stock 3.2. Now with EFI/ITB , AEM Infinity ECU, SSIs and 2in-1 out sport muffler. The difference in throttle response is significant. I may do a before/after on Rick's 3.0...using a GPS based HP/TQ datalogger that can be used with M'squirt. regards, al

Al,
Will be following this one closely as well. I have an '83 Euro spec SC with SSIs and M&K 2/2 muffler that I'm seriously considering sending your way for the same conversion. Very curious to hear about the improvements on this one. Best, Mike

sicko....
I have been sick with cold/cough crud sine New Years, but i've crept back out to the shop to make a little progress on Rick's car.
1st, I performed a leak down test and all cylinders are 4-5%.... very good results. Here's a couple of progress pix....it always amazes me how much CIS stuff has to come out of there......and how complicated the system is ![]() ![]() The "triangle of death" has worked its magic here. I'll replace the oil breather, t'stat and switch seals and typically I put a bead of JB Weld on the switch, where the plastic is crimped into the brass. Those damn things can leak right out of the box. ![]() Ever wonder how many parts are in my EFI kits? ......about this many.... ![]() stay tuned..... al

Get well, Al. Thanks for the update.
Is that a CDI box in the box I see there? How are you driving it?

wire it up!
Rick's 911 is getting wired up.....should have it wired and plumbed by end of tomorrow...and if I make good enough progress...perhaps it will get fired up!
Look for a mushroom cloud in the PNW....(do not panic....this is a test) regards, al

Wow Al, looks stunning. The red, black and silver tones together is so cool. And better yet, it comes with all that spaghetti. If it cooks as good as it looks I will be ecstatic. You definitely have me jazzed. Thanks for your hard work.

Road Report
Picked up the car today from our own wizard, Al X-Faktory Kosmal. Even with the reviews of others extolling the benefits, I kept my expectations measured. My asks were better throttle response and what ever additional power he could squeeze from the known anemic 3.0 CIS engine.
Wow was I ever surprised! Throttle response is ‘right now’; crisp and immediate. No more waiting while winding my watch. Torque is far more linear and urgent approaching red line. Better breathing and modern EFI has done a great job of providing useable and noticeable power enhanced by a new menacing intake growl. Over 3200 RPM the intake roars and the car now leaps forward, very similar to my old 2.7 RS spec MFI, which I didn’t think was possible. So even though my asks were sharper throttle and whatever power he could coax, he delivered in spades with a motor which feels and sounds transformed Anyone considering going to a performance engine build on an engine with a good leak down might want to reconsider, save cubic dollars, and go the EFI ITB route. I am sure glad I did. ![]()

Oh man, that looks amazing! You know, RSBob, I have a few friends who've done expensive motor swaps or rebuilds, and I always thought....what if they just got rid of the CIS and sent their SCs to Al's?
I am seriously considering doing exactly what you did here. Al, can you ping me on PM to let me know how much coin I need to save up? Thanks! Again, that looks amazing!

How much of an improvement on the 0 to 60mph seconds do you think you have made? US spec's and maybe ROW specs?

Rick (RSBob).....Good to see you today and thank you for the kind words (worth every bit of the $20).....much appreciated. I was pretty happy with the results, but it means a lot more that you are happy with the results. The combo of EFI/ITBs and modern engine management....is a good thing! Your SC is a little more serious now.........and a lot more fun.
regards, al
