not having a good day with the 02 sensor

I have the new 02 sensor . New connector from GOTH. I tried to trim back green wire shielding wires but just no room to work. Hooked everything up and car is smoking white like crazy. Smells bad. . Tech says way too rich. So, back to square one!. My question is , is it normal for my 3.2 to run really rich without a good connection to 02 sensor? Before I removed the old 02 sensor car was running fine except for higher HC readings.

Make sure to use just the inner wire and the shield don’t short. Otherwise it will run rich. Hope this help.

thank you Louie. I'm doing all I can. Will try again on Monday. Have everything hooked up. But I must have a shield wire in there somewhere. It is running crazy rich. I was told that my meter reading on the wire should bounce low to high within one volt. My check just stayed around 0.24 So I have a shield wire in there. In 1985 Porsche must have had a shortage of shielded wire.

Hi Nick,

I think you would get 0.00 volts if the shield wire was touching the center signal wire.

You may want to recheck the CHT connection (the white plug you mentioned in another post). The car will be hard starting and run super rich if this is not making connection. Verify the pin inside the white plug didn't slip backwards when you plugged it back in.

Hi goth. The CHT is fine. I tested it simply by removing it and car would not start at all. Reconnected and car started right up. I know it is shield wires. My new plan is to look for a small alligator clip that I can attach to a wire. No room
To splice well.

I was thinking I bumped something while working in the ara but I triple checked and can find nothing wrong. Well, this is the reason I bought this car years ago but this repair makes adjusting valves easy. The green wire literally comes out of the harness only a few inches.

If I can clear back all shield wires then an insulated Alligator clip could do the trick. Goth, your connector is very fine quality.
