That can be tough one! The trick I used was to turn a large screw driver with vice grips.

impact screwdriver. large bit. Hit with hammer so that the bit seats and the cam turns. Should break it loose.

It will come off but you need a large bit and driver with some leverage. Something like this: http://a.co/iV2Rkm3
It likely hasn't moved since installed from the factory. It is a PITA, but it will come off. Have patience. Better than cutting it off.

I had the same issue last year when removing my seats to pull out the carpet. Impact driver had it off in 1-2 minutes each side. I think mine came in a small kit from Lisle. Well worth the expense.

A large flat blade screwdriver with vice grips is how I always did them.

Snap-on screw drivers have a hex built into the shaft, near the handle, for this very reason.

+1 on the Snap-On
I am doing the rear seat delete and RS Carpet from Appbiz as we speak. I just sprayed a small amount of PB Blaster on the screws and let it soak overnight. Then using a rubber mallet, tapped on the screw driver and was able to loosen them with a reasonable amount of force. ![]() ![]() Here are a couple pics of the snap-on screwdriver where you can hook up the box wrench. Also, I will have most of a black interior from a 1986 for sale in the marketplace soon. Good shape. Not great. For those that have done the Rear seat delete, do you recommend taking out sound padding? The car is an outlaw and is loud as hell already with headers. I’m not concerned with decibels. More concerned with how will the new carpet lay down. ![]()

Huge weight savings with the sound pad removed, but you will have some work to do make it smooth for the carpet.

I like weight savings!
Do you know of any links to threads that detail what goes into the prep work prior to flying carpet?

+1 on removing the sound pad from the seat back/pkg shelf, side panels, and wherever else you can. Good weight savings.
Here is an old thread with a good discussion of options for lighter weight 'underlayment' for the RS carpet. How to install RS carpet and make it look good?
