x-faktory 3.8RS w/ITBs

New project in the house. 964 w/3.8RS built motor..........
We are installing the Rasant GT3 intake (Independent Throttle body EFI with common plenum) and a Rarely8 GT3 exhaust with active valves.......Motec ECU, Weapon-X COPs...all of the good stuff.....

Parts are coming in, enough for me to get started, but still waiting for some of the system bits....this should be a fun one.

going from this:

To this: (borrowed a Rasant pic, to illustrate)

regards,
al

3.8rs

The 964 engine compartment is the proverbial 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag. 1st, you gotta take it all apart.........and remove at least 5 lbs

10lbs

5 lbs

Al,

My 3.6L race engine uses a Rasant wiring harness with a WeaponX CoP setup. Make sure you use 2 3-channel ignitor modules per side. You do not want to divide the ignitor output. This is how my setup looks:

Note that I am using these standoffs for the ignitor heat sink plate:

https://www.mcmaster.com/93655A262/

And these for the CoP retainers:

The mounting plate/heatsink is this part:

Al,

With the MoTec M130 setup, these are the injectors to get:

ID1050-XDS - Injector Dynamics

No, they do not flow too much. The MoTec software has these injectors in its injector drop down so the ECU will know their characteristics. I am getting great power and economy with these injectors.

Scott

We are using those injectors on our M130 setup, also from Rasant... being tuned this week - fingers crossed!

tipping point

removing parts is still underway...the rest of the exhaust is next...but for the most part, i am at the point where parts are being installed. The A/C compressor and associated crapola have been removed...to be replaced, at a later date with a new electric A/C system. To ensure that there is enough juice, a new high-output alternator from classic retrofit has been installed....While i was in there I refurbed the fan/housing a bit....Also I've have the new wiring harness pulled through through the bulkhead, into the interior and the COPs ignitors, throttle bellcrank and Vacuum manifold installed....Still looks like a clusta, but will now start to clean up nicely....next week the ITBs should be installed, cam and crank sensors installed, fuel plumbing/wiring should be completed......than all i need are the missing bits...the GT3 plenum (Rasant) and the GT3 exhaust (Rarly8) and then it's tuning time.

regards,
al

That is a pic of Scott Winders very cool 3.6 motor...it is a thing of beauty....
But, that is not the engine I'm working on...however, dual Lamda sensors are being used on my 3.8RS project.

regards,
al

No, I did not. William Knight is the architect and Mat Lowrance built it. It is a wonderful engine...369 WHP and 290 WTQ. I received the long block with the ITBs installed. I installed the wiring harness (built by Rasant), the CoP setup including fabricating the mounting plates/heat sinks setup.

Thanks. Yes, it is a dual lambda setup running in closed loop. The MoTec M130 is phenomenal at keeping the AFR right at the target number.

Another thing that was surprising is the fuel economy I get. The MoTec M130 is sequential mode is burning quite a bit less fuel than the previous 3.6L race engine in batch mode spinning 800 RPM less and making 100 WHP less.

What is that number if I may ask?

That number is .90 lambda unless other conditions (knock, cylinder head temps) cause the ECU to lower it.

I am running 110 or 112 octane race fuel with no more than 20 degrees advance...

This is an amazing stat.... had no idea motec tuning for non-pro cars could be that sophisticated....
