Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R

Need a new set of tires. While I drive the car plenty on the street, I've been attending more and more AX and DE events, which leaves me wanting more stickiness than my current street tires can provide (they have also heat cycled out of top performance it feels).

I've heard good things about RE-71Rs. They're not too expensive at ~140/tire and they fit!

Thought I'd poll the group before spending some $$$$


EDIT - I currently have a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2, which served me well, but I think I want something more dedicated.

Great tires, super handling, but one caveat, they wear like butter. LOL

After a day at the track I’m ready to buy another set. So quiet even when pushing them hard on a turn. The tires capabilities are beyond my capabilities as a driver.

All the other days, they are a little hard for me, especially at 40-60 degrees. I feel everything on the awful roads here. With their stickiness they kick a fair amount of pebble and grit that you hear hiting the car. Maybe I could drop air pressure down a little, but they already wear fast. I don’t regret buying them, but I’m going to look elsewhere next time for more ride quality since I’m only at a track a couple days a year and am not racing for any trophies.

I was debating the same thing.
My car came with re-71 from 1998, it was time for new rubber.

I ended buying Firestone fire hawk Indy 500 as it is good on rain and still soft and sticky plus doesn’t wear as much as re-71r.
The fact that I like the pattern is a bonus.

I bought them only because they were the ones available in 16s at TireRack at that time. So far so good. Had RE-11s before. Did maybe 5 AX sessions last year and still have plenty of tire left. Of course that could mean I don't drive fast enough.

Guys, I'm not loving them so much. I had DUNLOP DIREZZA ZII and moved over to the RE71's. I have lost confidence in the front end grip. The car feels nervous and a little "dartie". I've made no changes to the car other then the tires and I've had Jae at Mirage Motorsport check over the suspension for any issues so I feel good the car is ok. I'm running a little lighter than stock, I'm right around 2400lbs. Any suggestions? Tire Psi to try? I would appreciate any insight.

That's the nature of the RE71R. They're real "pointy," moreso than any tire I've tried. On a lot of cars that's a desirable trait. I don't care for it on my 911 either. Going low pressure will slow them down slightly, but they're still razor blades. Love this tire on my Mini, just think and it starts turning.

I'm team Rival S on my 911. Similar ultimate grip, broader peak, and a hair of lag that is comforting.
