Pls Inform me about Carrera 3.2 engine numbers

I need to find the engine and trans numbers for a 87 3.2l Carrera.
I think I found them but want to make sure I have the correct ones.
And how do you know they are matching? The numbers are different from one another and do not match the VIN. Should they? How is it determined they are matching?

Thanks,
John

The stampings on eng and trans have nothing to do with the VIN.
The coupe going down the line, then a couple cabs or targas, and then the next sequential number for the next coupe. Each car line has its own sequential numbers putting the engine and trans numbers out of wack for the VIN.

Thanks for the reply Bruce.
That begs the question; how does one know if it's a "numbers matching" car? I know my car has the original engine and trans. Is there a way to cross reference these numbers to the car/VIN? I only ask because I'm selling the car and I have stated numbers matching but I really never looked at them just "assumed".

Thanks,
John

The only way to know is compare them to the factory records using a Certificate of Authenticity. some will say even that process can sometimes be incorrect.
You have H numbers so your engine and transmission are correct for your model year. You think they are original to the car but how do you really know?

BTW the smaller 12 indicates it was fitted with a Limited slip differential
