Found a 1968 911L engine four years ago. Ready to start a restore back to slate grey.

I’m into 3 years or so. Year one was stripping it, body, paint and interior. Plan was to do the work over the winter and drive in the summer. Bodyshop ran late and cut into my summer. Year Two was all the suspension, brakes, and similar. That worked out ok as it did it myself so I could hold schedule. This past winter was other loose end like fuel lines, window mechanisms, and the engine. The engine was removed and shipped to a mech about 800 miles away (not a lot of Porsche specialies near me). It’s almost ready and I’m a few weeks away from sending the car to the mechanic. We’ll do the install together and he’ll help with corner balancing and testing. . Once that is done I’d say I’m 98% finished and will just enjoy it for a while.

Its taken longer than I expected and way more money! Can never sell it now - not that I would.

Purchased the car in 1993. Drove it for the first time last year when I went from the car hoist. out of the garage, and then back into the other side of the garage. Fingers crossed it will be on the road sometime in 2019.

Wow... I've been waiting for mine for about 6 weeks and it's driving me nuts. Don't know how you guys do it, or how I'll handle it when mine needs more invasive work.

Do all these stories end with "yes I have another Porsche I drive"?
If not, do you come here thinking it's a support group? lol

well i feel like a kid. there are at least 2 stories in this thread that have gone on longer than i've been alive.
and i felt like a bum not working on mine for a month. (it hasn't run in 7+ years, but i just got it in December 2017) i was out there today making some progress because even tho i set a 10 year budget to get it done, i want to drive it next year.

See my Garage for my answer.

Perhaps this thread should have been called "longest running project that is not done."
