When first starting up after a couple of months of in activety
the gas pedal usually is stuck. I haveto pat it lightly a couple of times to free it up. I am guessing the linkage needs lube. What to use - a wheel bearing grease? Do I need to grease the linkage from under the car and how about the linkage within the engine compartment?

I'd put the car up on stands, then have someone work the throttle while you study the action. First clean with brake cleaner, then lube all moving points. I'd probably use white grease which isn't too thick and will stand up to water.
May also be the pedal itself... time to remove and clean the pedal cluster?

If it gets really bad, take a look at the link below to a DIY rebuild.

First place I would look is the bushing coming out the side of the transmission.

While you are down there, make sure the clutch line isn't rubbing the throttle.
