SC and 964 Throttle Linkage

A question, refer to illustration 702-10 in the Parts Manual(s) for the SC and the 964. The objective here was to find out if the throttle linkage between the throttle bell crank on the transmission and the lever on the throttle butterfly itself were the same. (I think this is the critical item in working out the throttle linkage for my 964 plenum conversion.) My thoughts were to compare part numbers and see if they were the same or if I could swap out parts.

Going to the SC parts manual, the P/N for the rod that connects the throttle bell crank on the transmission to the lever on the throttle body is 911.423.043.00 “Throttle Linkage.” This is for the rod with the loop thing on the bottom end only, not including the upper ball joint parts.

Moving to the corresponding illustration for the 964 there is no such part shown! It shows what I take to be a different set of parts for the bellcrank(s) on the transmission, but there is no “Throttle Linkage” per se shown. So is this an error of omission, is the part the same, or does the 964 cable run directly to the throttle body with no “middleman,” as it were?

Suggest looking at the 3.6 conversion throttle linkages for 911's.

We are using the Patrick Motorsport throttle cable for 3.6L conversions . . .expensive but works fine . . .

This is how I did my 3.6 conversion, using the 915 trans belcrank/pull rod, an SC belcrank console and a rod to the throttle lever. It's solid and bomb proof, just like the the SC system is.

Good information uwanna. Since I already have those parts them I am good to go. Is the rod from the bellcrank on the console the same as the SC one, or from something else? In the image it looks longer.

In any case a good start.

Steam,
I believe it is the SC rod from the bellcrank console to the throttle lever as that was all I had at the time.
I think there are enough threads on the rod and ends to adjust it to work.
My mind is a little bit foggy, as I did this 3.6 transplant back in 1992 long before any "kits" were available. LOL But give it a try.

As I think has been mentioned, 964 and 993 cars use a cable mechanism.

It is possible to modify a 964 cable to work when using a 3.6 intake system/TB in an earlier car. Some threads on this.

It is also pretty easy to fab up a earlier car-style rod mechanism as has been shown in this thread.

Here is another thread that may be helpful:

How To Convert Throttle Linkage on 3.6 Transplants?

I mentioned the large BBK throttle body and some geometry changes for better part throttle response.

It all worked very well. Lots more air in than a 964 or 993 throttle body, and lots more power. Of course I could add fuel because have aftermarket EFI.

With that set up on my 3.8 (with aggressive rsr-like cam profiles) it all worked very well. Not as nice as ITB's, but better than the stock TB.

I now have to use a factory TB for my race class, so the BBK TB I rigged up is sitting on a shelf. Should probably find a home with someone who can tune for the increased air/power in a 3.6+ application that uses the 964 or 993 style plenum. I guess I will have to make a new ad and sell it.
