Oxygen Sensor, '82 911SC
I just purchased an '82 911SC Targa. Once I got it home and started tinkering with it, I noticed that the Oxygen sensor was installed, but disconnected. Once I got the OXS circuit working again, I reset the sensor (so I didnt have to see the red light all the time). I bought an oxygen sensor from Checker auto which was listed for my car, but it did not have the original wiring. Upon further review, I found that it's a Bosch "generic" sensor that I would splice my wiring into. Is this suitable for my 911 or must you have the original sensor?
Thanks for the help! |

It's probably okay, but most SCs run best with the O2 sensor disconnected. Mine is.

Well, the problem is that I live in a town where we have emission controls. Also, since I hooked the sensor back up, it seems to be getting REALLY bad mileage! Also, I live in Denver so the high altitude can cause very rich mixtures when the oxygen sensor is not working correctly.
Has anybody else tried the Bosch generic oxygen sensor with any luck? '82 SC Targa

You need to get it to a exhaust gas tester....available at most forieign car P-car repair facilities. Sounds like you need a mixyure adjustment. Only way to get it right is to adjust with the tester probe in the exhaust while taking a reading.

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

My 80SC had all of the CIS system installed and was running just fine (now the car is in pieces for a restoration). If you reinstalled the O2 sensor and it starts to run crappy then you need to adjust your mixture to set the Lamda mixture to a value of 1. This can be done with an exhaust gas tester or you can use a dwell meter. I had the dwell meter already and I used it to set the frequency valve on time. Once that was done I ran the car thru the California DMV smog station (not a gas station but DMV's own testing station). I was told I was right in the middle of the readings and the car passed with flying colors. I have sent you a PM with some more info that might help you.
