Coco mats in the frunk?
I was thinking about purchasing Coco mats for my ‘87 Targa and saw that they do custom sizes. I don’t like the perlon carpet in the frunk and was considering a Coco mat.
Has anyone done this? Pics please. |

Sorry, can’t offer pics. There are a number of compound curves if you are trying to replicate the coverage of the Perlon that may be tough due to the thickness of the Coco mat material. And the weight will be significantly more, if that’s a concern. Not saying it is not doable. I can see a flat piece in the plane just above the spare and between the strut towers.

If you have Coco mats, you know they weigh a lot. In fact when I got mine for the 914 I was shocked how much just 2 front floor mats weigh. I wouldn’t be surprised if a mat for the frunk to weigh in excess of 15 lbs. weight the killer of horsepower. However if you are going to add excess weight, the frunk is the place to do it.

I too would be interested to see Coco in there, and can imagine on some colors it'd be a nice addition. I upgraded my former trunk covering of salt & pepper felt - which always looked like speaker material to me - to real cut pile carpet as offered in 930s of the era. At least that's an in-betweener option for you. Though weight may be a concern for the purely performance crowd, it didn't 'weigh' (sorry) as even a minor consideration to me. Best to you.

“purely performance crowd”
Guilty as charged, you honor says the guy who removed 180 lbs from his SC.

I made a rough template to get an idea of the look. I think it can work.
RS- I’m not worried about the weight because I really don’t race. I guess I am more of a “purely cruising crowd ” ![]() Jac- you are correct, I will not be able to go up the sides with the mat. AHudson-where did you get the 930 style carpet? ![]() |

That plush carpet isn't limited to 930s. My MY87 came with the sliver knit carpet for the trunk as option code 975. It's a three piece affair with the main covering the bottom like your mock up for the Coco mat plus the rear of the backside of the dash and brake booster, and then two narrower pieces for each side. They appear to be available from our host: https://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/0814/POR_0814_INTMAT_pg2.htm#item7

When you get it done I want to see pictures. Nothing wrong with cruising. I am transitioning that way myself, but still enjoy a bit of acceleration. It’s all good.

Good topic-- Coco mats do weigh a bit, but I don't run track, etc....but I did have carpet in all of the Porsche's, but after working on them and accessing the frunk for work, batteries, access to other areas. I decided to remove the carpet while I own it. I have not regretted that decision....I just bagged the carpet and stored them in the garage.

Hey Tony, SORRY I don't check the forum like I should. I got my carpet from AppBiz who is a member here I believe. They have good products, but as another mentioned, this carpet wasn't limited to 930s, it was just standard on 930s but an option elsewhere (not sure what year). AppBiz is a supplier to our host here, who offers the carpet at this link: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/PELAPBZTC77B.htm?pn=PEL-APBZ-TC77B&gclid=Cj0KCQjwu_jYBRD8ARIsAC3EGCJih0f_0j8jMwk2KzaN r4N56hMBGQvm_t9DJUDUXdPdkfDHS7KQJn0aAmKtEALw_wcB Anyway, here's how it looks. One thing of note because I'm a freak, I took an old, somewhat hardened rear floor mat and put it atop the spare to make it somewhat flush with the other carpet to keep it more wrinkle free. Hope this helps. Your project is looking great! ![]() ![]()
