Rear Window Install Help!

I cannot find the answer here, Rennlist or anywhere. I poked the proper holes in the new rear window gasket, routed the wires, installed the gasket onto the glass with the wires connected, installed the metal trim into the gasket, lubed the gasket and the rear window frame on the car, and I cannot get the gasket/window/trim into place to begin roping. If I install the bottom of the window into the frame first, then when I press the top down into place, the gasket folds upward (at a VERY sharp angle because of the vertical-ness of the rear edge of the roof where the vents are) and the trim pops out of the gasket. Pelican tutorial says install the top portion first. Okay, but then the gasket curls under when I press the bottom of the window into the frame. How do I get the window into position so that I can start the roping process?

As near as I can tell, someone may have to VERY slowly (I mm at a time) slide the window upward along the rear of the car while another person uses a tool to coax the gasket flap upward (perhaps while also pressing downward onto the metal trim) along that vertical upper window frame edge (at the rear of the roof line, just under the vents) until the lower part of the window drops into the frame (without allowing the upper portion of the gasket curling sharply enough upward to bend the gasket enough for the metal trim to AGAIN pop out of the gasket.

What is the trick here?

There is no trick, its a pain in the butt. I just did one and got the window in place (top first) but started pulling the rope from the bottom. Do small sections at a time and use your fist to tap the outside of the window where your pulling the rope. I didn't have the rear quarter windows in at the time so I was able to do it by myself but if they're in, you'll probably need a second person.

I used the OEM gasket from our sponsors. Never use a gasket that is not the correct, OEM gasket. I also do not have the quarter-windows in yet, and I am not worried about the roping process.

The Pelican Tech Article is correct in that the top of the window needs to be set into the frame first, before the bottom. Trust me. The bottom cannot be set into the frame first.

I spoke today, again, with a glass guy who has done many of these. He said at least two people are necessary. More is better.

The problem is that the seal at the upper edge needs to bend at nearly a 90 degree angle to conform with the roof line, just below those vent holes at the rear of the roof. When the seal bends at this angle, as you are pressing the window into the frame, almost certainly the seal will deform enough to dislodge and expel the metal trim. When this happens, you start over.

As near as I can tell, with two assistants and light lubrication, one person is at the bottom of the glass pushing it upward into the frame. Meanwhile, two others are at the top of the glass pressing firmly against the metal trim (NOT the glass or the gasket). This method has a fighting chance of getting the glass into the frame (so the roping process can begin) without the metal trim popping out.

I still have not yet been successful. More later.....

There was a thread where someone used a ratchet strap to hold the window firmly in place while they roped the window in. I have not done a targa but when I install glass I put the rope around twice and if it misses the first time you have a second chance.
