What color for black powder coat

I want to have some interior parts and engine tins in my 912 powder coated black. The guy I知 taking the parts to uses Prismatic Powders. What finish do you recommend? I知 thinking Matte Black, which seems to have just a bit of shine to it. But I値l trust the judgment of the experts. Thanks!

Steve

I would look at samples they have done and make sure to take them outside. Something I would suggest, if you are looking for a OEM type color then look toward satin. A matte finish looks nice but if you add oil to it it will likely show a big shiny spot that won稚 clean up easily. With it being summer already, wipe a brow and rub on the sample to see what it does, see if you can wipe it clean easily. Satin on the other hand already is a bit shiny and may not show oil as easily as a matte color. Just something to think about.

My powder coater used what he called 20% black. A satin/semigloss, perfect.

Samples for sure, most shops have them. I had my rims powder coated semi gloss black about 15 years ago and they came out satin which was perfect. But another companies semi-gloss might and will look different.

Thanks for all the suggestions Team. I think I’ll go with Satin on a couple of small parts and if it’s not right he can re do them.

Agree.

I had my tin, fan and valve covers done at an industrial powder coater.

Gloss black for the tin and black bits (brackets, etc) and red for the fan/covers.

I don't regret it as it still shines up but it's kind of like putting a tail on your 911. It adds but takes away from the car's form at the same time. That's what the gloss does. It adds bling but maybe that's not what your eye to focus on.

Just rambling. Post a pic of your parts when complete.

The place i used did their black in 10% increments from flat to full gloss. They were already familiar with Porsche engine tin and suggested something like 40% gloss, as I recall.
