How about these for a time warp?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2405338585&category=33748

Wonder how those P7's would be to drive on!

Surely the factory or suplying dealer would'nt put the weights on the outside of the rim??

I second that wheel weight comment... I don't think the auction description is entirely accurate. Plus the back rim of the wheel is a bit more scuffed than I would imagine for wheels that were only used for one week.

Mark,

Hope that they are "super rare" as I have an extra set in my garage!

Wonder if they are used wheels with a set of new center caps installed?

Joe

Super rare. Outside of the Porsche community, yes. Around here you have to duck or you'll be hit in the head with all the Fuchs changing hands!

Where's the cosmoline on these wheels? Every 80's set i've seen has that goop sprayed all over the back of the wheels. I've seen it in a number of picture ads and every Fuchs wheel I have (8) needed that crap removed! I'd have to assume those wheels have at least been scrubbed on pretty good to get rid of that crap. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. Just pointing it out.

I gotta think those tires are a little dry-rotted. Using tires seems to keep the rubber pliable. Sitting lets them dry out and crack.

What's wrong with the wheel weights being placed on the outer rim? Doing so balances the wheels better. Plus, they're only held on there by adhesive tape (just like the valve stem support). I could understand refusing the weights on the outer rim face if they were clip-on weights. Thankfully clip-ons are not useable on Fuchs! I guess the only drawback to the weights on the outer rim is the slight difference in brightness that shows up on the anodizing after the weights have been on there for a long time?

Speaking of wheel weights. Look how many are on that 16x7! That's 10 quarter oz./7 gram weights!!! That tire should be rotated 180 deg. to see if some of that weight could be reduced. I guess that monster strip of weights is reason enough for some of you to not want them on the outer rim edge!!!! Now I understand

Even though weights on the outside of rims is less desirable to most, I have seen them located there many times. next time your at a concourse take a closer look at some of the older cars.
P7's were a great tire for their time, I had a set of those tires and I really like them allot.

I had P7's on my 79 SC back in 82, they were the bees' knees in those days. It would be fun to try a car on those 17 year old tyres now, it would be like driving on snow!

What's with the number of weights though!?! I count 10 on the one wheel alone? Would they ever come from the factory that way?

I agree they're on the outside from the factory, my '89 has 17k original, and I just replaced the factory rubber. Each had a single (count 'em - 1) factory weight on the outside of the wheel.

It's true, it does require more weights on the inside than on the outside.
It might be the location of the weights in regards to the radial circumference position that determines proper harmonic balancing.
When mass is located closer to the center it takes more mass to counter act.

The number of weights somtimes has to do with the tire and not necessarily the wheel.

One of my 16x6's had a boatload of weights on the outer rim edge. 10 or more I think. I figured the wheel was bent. Had the wheels balanced and the fella at the shop mentioned that wheel needed a bunch of weights. He removed the tire, spun the tire 180 deg. from the original position, remounted and rebalanced. That cut the number of weights down to six on the outside and three on the inside. So it reduced the number of weights and drove nice and smooth!

My tires (Dunlop SP Sport 4000 A/S) are pretty old too so i'm sure that has something to do with it.

Many tires have a marking on them-where the heavy spots from the mold imperfection is marked for instalation either 180 deg from the stem or sometimes on it.
I've heard of tire shops balancing a tire and then the thing bounces on the highway because it was half filled with liquid fix-a-flat.
They have runout as well that weights cant help, only shaving. BTW, does anyone check the balance of just the rims or is it negligible?

Wow! Yet another set of "Rare" fuch rims with finely aged tires! I suppose real wheels have the weights stuck onto them and a length of duct tape over the weights.
