Restoring CIS fuel system after extended storage. Looking for tips
I had a chance to pickup a 911sc that hadnt run in 4 years, and had covered maybe 500 miles in 20 years. The fuel pump was frozen, and I was hoping that I could drain the gas, replace the pump and get her back on the road, but that's not going to be the story. Rust keeps finding it's way into the swirl pot, ans eventually killed my new pump (not overly surprising)...so as of now, here is a list of things I ordered:
New dansk fuel tank (surprisingly not super expensive and has good reviews) Second new fuel pump. Second new fuel filter. New fuel accumulator New fuel tank screen. New sending unit. New fuel lines from tank through the tunnel. Is there anywhere else in the system that can harbor crud and send it into my new tank via the return hose? The rest of the fuel lines well get replaced this winter when I drop the engine for cleanup, they still have some life left of them. Before my new pump died, the car was actually running pretry darn good. Cold starts are a little rough, but once it's run for a minute or so, it runs really well, and makes good power. Basicall I just want to keep from crudding up my replacement tank, and not worried about much else for the time being. |

![]() ![]() Nice looking 911SC. Congratulations. A bit of info on the Dansk Fuel Tank; it does not have a internal filter as the factory tank does. You might want to consider adding a "Pre-Filter" for longer pump life. Len ![]() |

Thanks Len, I hadn't anticipated that the Dansk tank wouldn't take the pump screen, but honestly that makes sense. In reality I should have had a filter there to begin with, and I would have saved my first new fuel pump. I was also considering adding a filter in the return side, but that might be a whole new can of worms.

I wonder if your Cold Start Valve is plugged from old fuel sitting in it for so long which could be causing your cold start issue. Just a thought.

The csv sprays for a second or so, so if it’s runnung rough for a minute it’s probably not that. Sounds more like the wur to me. Have you checked the filter screen at the intake line? The internals may be shot though. If I leave gas sitting in my lawnmower over the winter, the carb will be shot in the spring.
