Front struct
Hello all,
I'm confused over how this struct fit in the housing. The housing is a boge type from a 68 912. So I got a KYB 361004. The last picture shows the insert in the housing with the large nut hand tighten all the way. The question is, is it ok to have a slight play up and down about 1/8" and side to side about 1/16"? Any thoughts would be so much appreciated. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I cannot say for sure with KYB's, but other strut inserts (Koni, Bilstein) have a spacer that sits at the bottom of strut housing.

Thank you Peter,
I checked with KYB support and they told me there should NO PLAY in any directions. So I think I bought the wrong struct even thought the seller stated that it fit 1968 912. |

I think a lot of times there is some oil poured into the strut housing too.

just finished putting new bilstein inserts into 66 struts. old inserts were kyb and they had no play up/down or side to side. in the bilsteins, there is a spacer that keeps up/down play nonexistent. there should be no side to side play. without spacer there's about 1/8" up/down play. with spacer the gland nut secures things just right. I would get inserts that fit better. can't be good to have stressed parts moving around like that.

Unfortunately no.. I have to spend a little more money. The KYB is not available for 68 model. The one I think will work is the sach boge insert. Just look up on ebay or pelican parts.
