Its on the bottom center rib, its stanped into the metal, they sometimes get scuffed up a bit, the type # is right at the lowest point and the sn# is towards the flywheel end.

Craig:
I checked my trans number, it is #5193018 wich according to my manual is a magnesium case. Good or bad? I did not see a "Type" number stamped near this one. But the manual calls out Type 902.300/16. Thanks, Ron D

If you have a 69 it must be the 902/16 it would have the 6:29 r&p which is really nice on the 912's and for the track. The magnesium is liter and uses larger axel (carrier) bearings along with the larger seal. The case should be a dull gray color?

Craig:
That explains why it takes the larger diameter differential output shaft seals. I never noticed the color as being different than the engine casting. Next time under I will pay more attention to the trans case color. Thanks, Ron D
