possible midwest 912 gtg next summer
On the south east board of Dave Hillmans 912bbs, we are looking into having a gathering next summer. we would like to get your thoughts and ideas on having a 912 registry "rust-belt region meet"; what to do, where to have it etc.
We would like to get as much input as possible, and more importantly, we would love to have as many Midwest 912ers come out as possible. to see what we have in mind, and thoughts thrown around right now go to http://www.bbs912.org/cgi-bin/se912.pl?read=1738 all thoughts, ideas, and input is greatly appreciated guys! Harry

I need to get out of town, I would do my best to make it to any type of midwest event. There is nothing going on here in Michigan. ZERO, if its after May (school) my Son would love to make the event with me, the wife as no interest at all (unless there is a shopping mall there) Let me know if you need some help, money etc. This is a perfect reason for me to now get my targa top redone.
Thanks Craig

Craig,
our options are going to Auburn do the cord/dusenburg museum etc, as a joint event w/ some 356ers. Jim in indiana says theres a big shopping mall there for the wives. this looks the most likely, as its closer to Mi, and Illinois. id also like to do one in hocking hills in southern ohio, a really hilly region on the edge of the appalacians (sp). lots of great twisty roads, great views, waterfalls, cliffs, some arts fartsy craft places that the wives might be interested in. we could even do a camp out. (i really want this one especially for the roads.. but if the others are more interested in going to auburn, thats cool too) Jim will be contacting the places in the area, since hes not too far away, and ill be contacting sponsors to hopfully get some door prizes, and trying to round up the 912ers. ill make sure to keep you updated, and let you know if we need any help. hopefuly we can get as many of the midwest guys as we can to come. spread the word to the michigan guys!

Once I have the new gearing in mine I'd be up for a meet. I'd prefer something closer to Michigan, but if I can get it geared down to a sane cruising rpm (4000rpm at 80mph is too much for my ears) then I'll be happy to drive it anywhere.
Keep us posted! Later, G '69 912 with 2056ccs of stompin' T4 power! |

My stock 902 5 speed gives me 4000 RPM at 70 MPH. Works for me. I'd take 4000 at 80 anyday.

I have no idea what my calendar will look like next summer but I would certainly try to fit in a 912 event. ACD museum is far easier for me to get to than Hocking Hills, although Hocking Hills would be a beautiful place to drive.

UPDATE!
ok, Jim in Indiana got in contact with the 356 group and posted this update on the bbs912.
"I just got off the phone with part of the organization team that has put on the 356 meet in Auburn the past 2 years. This meet was formerly held in Minter, Ohio. I asked what their thought would be to have us "tag along" on the 2004 meet. The reaction was great. "How many can you bring?". "We'll set up special parking", and in general a very warm response. The date is not yet set, but they have my name and number for upcoming planning sessions. The event has been held at the Kruse International Museum the past 2 years. Accommodations have been at the Auburn Inn. Kruse was looking for them to "beef up" the event (it helps draw folks to the Museum) and a bunch of 912s showing up would be welcome. In any case, we are welcome and they are looking forward to having us. I believe I might have at leastone rather interesting "tech session" set up with some professional detailing techniques. I know several 356 racing motor rebuilders from the Cincinnatti area should be there again. So without a firm date, but with the beginning of the event, I'm excited. Start looking at the road atlas and find Auburn, Indiana, Jim in Indiana" this is some great news!! pass this along to all of the 912 faithful out here in the rustbelt. we need to get as many people as we can, so that we can talk shop and make the most out of this great gathering! again, as news and further planing develops i will keep you all posted.

OK... help me bug JoAnne about it. We're working on blocking off like 10 rooms at a local hotel there. You think we can scare up more folks than that? The weather there that time of year should be great. A perfect last run for the snowbelt folks.
Sound good? Morrie
