Temp Gauge

Hi,

I am having problems with my temp gauge in my '68 912. It pegs out to
the highest end when I start and first drive my car. It then drops back
down after a while! I would like some help fixing the problem.

Thanks in advance to all who offer any assistance.

Well, it could be one of two things. The gauge or the sending unit. If it is pegging and then settling, it sounds like it's the sending unit. Unfortunately, these are very expensive for some unknown reason. I have a 912 engine in my 356, and when I went to replace the sending unit, I found out that they cost around $200!!! Well, I put a 914 sending unit and a 914 gauge coil (with the 356 green/blk gauge face and it works fine, without the obscene cost...

Just a suggestion...
