Question 912E conversion to 2.7 liter

I am considering installing a rebuilt 210 hp 2.7 liter in my '76 912E. The current 2.0 liter needs rebuilt and the 2.7 is very attractive. Has anyone done this? Other than engine mounts, what other considerations should I be aware of. I plan to keep the original 912E motor for future resale with the car. The entire car is in very good condition, inside and out.

Thanks,

Dennis G.

I'm assuming that you are talking about the 2.7L 911. First you must realize that you are going from a wet oil sump engine to a dry sump engine. This means you will have to install the oil tank and accessories in the engine compartment. You will have to as you said change engine mounts, and if I'm not mistaking change some wires and linkages. Its going to be a big job. Not to discourage you from making the change, but you best bet would be to buy another 911 instead of converting the 912, as it would be unrealistic to change engines again before selling.

Dennis:
Are you sure you want to go this route? While the 912E motor is no screamer, it's more reliable than a stock 2.7. You can build a Type4 motor to 130 hp (webers, cam, etc.). If you want to do the 6cyl conversion, I'd agree with the previous reply and try to get a rusty or wrecked 911 2.7 and make it a donor car. You might go broke trying to hunt down all of the bells and buzzers you're most likely going to need. Also, consider the ever-tightening smog laws - keep that original FI engine to smog the car in the future.

Bill.
