I've had a lot of people from this board ask me about my 912 as of late, so now I'm asking all of you about your 912.
To start it off I'll tell everyone about my 912. Mine is a guards red 1968 912 coupe with about 270000 miles. It has a black interior with a new Blaupunkt RPD 540 cd player, a 1971 911 steering wheel, and new carpeting and reupholstered seats. It has the optional fresh air blower in the trunk. The car is lowered 1 inch (going to be 2.5" this summer ![]() ![]() ![]() ------------------ Joshua Harrison 1968 912 Coupe |

Josh,
I'm a pilot and when I decided to buy a 912, I would look at cars on the weekends within 2 hours flying distance of my home airport. By the Grace of the Good Lord, I found my car in Roanoke Virginia via the 912 Registry bulletin board. It was a stock 76 912E which my wife, Susie, and I really enjoy on the weekends. When I brought the car back to Pa., I had it gone over by our local Porsche shop. The mechanic called me at work and said the car needed a tune up, oil change, and just passed both Pa. Inspection and Emissions tests. It was never wrecked, and rust free. It spent it's life on the West Coast before the owner retired and moved back home to Roanoke. I've done all the basic things .. you know the works of love, like refurbishing the leather. I had the car professionally re-painted stock last year and to me it looks great. It's Peru red, tan basketweave leather interior and all the numbers match. I have no desire to re-design what the Porsche Engineers created in 1976. I have been to Germany numerous times and visited Porsche. Although the new Porsche's are wonderful machines to drive; there is nothing like the feel of driving the old 912E. Good luck with your car and always be safe & smart. Rich |

My 1st 912 was a '68 in Irish Green, I brought it from a dealer in LA about 5 years ago and shipped it to the UK,(good 912's are hard to find over here mainly because of all rain we have). I freshened it up with a bare metal repaint, new rubbers, carpets and a top end rebuild on the engine. Unfortinatly just before Christmas my lovely car was hit by a young driver while it was parked. He hit it so hard it was pushed it into another stationary car. The only consolation for me was he broke his nose on his air bag!
My current car (purchased with the insurance money) also came from the west coast of America. I brought it in January this year from a guy who just wanted the engine for his 356. It is a '67 in Polo Red, but this one needed a little more work. It needed new floors and a boot floor which I fitted before bare metaling the shell and senting it to a friends shop for a repaint. My old car supplied the 6x15 Fuchs, engine, 5 speed gearbox, rubbers and some other bits. The seats and door panels have been retrimmed and a new headlining fitted. The car, as you can see has been lowered as much as the 185HR15 SAX Michelins will allow. The engine is standard except for a 337s Norris cam, 050 dizzy and 40DCNF webers. It runs and revs well. But I soon hope to replace it so I am currently building and lightened and balanced 1720cc with 356s Norris cam,Shasta 11.5:1 pistons and reworked heads to lower the compresion to 10.5:1. It has full flow oil and I also have some 44 IDA webere with 32mm chokes to go on it. I am hoping for 125Bhp when it goes on the Dyno at WWW.johnmaherracing.co.uk in Manchester. The bottom end it already together and I am just sorting the heads out. I'll let you all know if it servives the dyno and how much it made. I finished the car about 6 weeks ago and I am currently enjoying our rather short summer driving it nealy every day. [This message has been edited by John Walklett (edited 06-09-2001).] |

1968 Porsche 912, from factory was olive green with 15 inch Fuchs and 5 speed. When my dad bought it to restore four years ago was resprayed orange, and definetely needed a paint job (and engine, and floor pans, and brakes, etc.). Summer of 99 the car was stripped down, new pans, welded in four point roll bar, redone interior with Corbeau race seats and 4 pt seat belts, resprayed Volkswagen Silver Arrow Metallic, fiberglass 911S front spoiler, took off all chrome trim, installed a recently rebuilt engine. Drove the car like that for 8 months until a total brake job (new 19mm maste cylinder, PBR metal master pads, stainless lines, rebuilt pedal box with Weltmeister bronze bushings, turned rotors, new calipers, Ate blue fluid). At the moment, I have installed new points, rotor, condenser, and cap. Valves are tomorrow, with new plugs. Next week is new 6 and 7 x 16 Fuchs with Dunlop tires (7s will fit the back, won't they?) Then its my 911S front suspension with aluminum calipers (need new pistons and lower control arms). The summer project is a rebuilt of the spare engine to 1720 with a Web Cam and all the goodies. Its a daily driver that will see some track time.

I purchased my '67 912 Targa Soft Rear Window while working at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Originally from Texas, it's a rust free car.
![]() Unfortunately, a previous owner installed a turbo unit. That stressed the engine, and during a 50 mph downshift from 5th to 4th for an exit ramp, the crank shattered and turned the case into shrapnel. While doing another stint in Antarctica at Palmer Station, I had Harry Pellow, aka The Maestro, totally rebuild the engine. At this point the car has 6,000 miles on it. Prior to putting in the sweet new engine, I found a NOS Speedo on eBay. My most recent purchase was a pair of Recaros. I can't wait to get back to finish the project. |

I bought my "E" in 98. Presently, it's running well with twin 40 Webers, baby air horns just added, Permatune, brand new 050 distributor, otherwise stock. Valves just adjusted last week with the full tune up.
It's revs up rather quickly now with the new distributor. For those of you still running an 009 in your "E" model 912's, try the 050 with the greater advance. It's much faster to spin up now. Anyway, I just fixed my sunroof after a few years of being stuck with broken cables. That's a nice addition to warm weather ventilation! Wheels: For running around I have a set of 15x6 cookies with 195 Yoko's in front and 215 Yoko's in the back. I also have a set of 15 inch steel rims with chrome hubcaps for the few car shows I make it to each summer. They were the factory standard wheel on the 76, although many had the 14 inch Fuchs. Summer plans: 21/27mm torsion bars, 22mm front and rear adjustable sway bars, new adjustable spring plates, Bilstein Sports and turbo tie rods. Lower to 24f/24.5r and corner balance. Also just bought the factory short shift kit for the 915/923 transmission. I started autocrossing another car of mine recently and have plans to try out the old 912 this fall with the new suspension. Dave 76 912E 63 Volvo P1800 (32k original miles) 94 del Sol VTEC (8200 RPM redline/160+HP) 97 Z3 2.8 84 928S/5spd. sold in May 2001 ![]() |

Greetings to all, My beast is a 68 model. I have owned it for 16 years. She's the standard Light Ivory with black interior. I estimate around 200k total miles.
I run a modified engine that has the following mods. Full flowed case to external filter, 5 inch crank pulley, carillo rods, shasta bigbore street pistons set at 9.6 to 1 CR, ported and cc'd heads with dual springs and titanium retainers, cromoly pushrods and custom ground (elgin) cam. The carbs are solex with bored 34.5mm venturies and fatter jets. I also run a deep sump and tuned exhaust. The ignition consists of an 050 dist, blue coil, HD points, HD wires, and W5BC plugs. The transmission is a 5 speed with standard gears and a limited slip diff set at 75%. The suspension includes boge sport struts in front with 22mm sway bar and camber support. At the rear it has a 19mm sway bar and Koni sport adjustable shocks. The settings are fairly agressive and it has been corner balanced with a 1/2 tank and me in the car. The brakes are stock at the rear and converted to SC vented in the front with a wilwood proportioning valve to set balance. The wheels are fuchs 6 x 15 with 205/50 rubber. The tach and speedo have been modified to reflect the new performance limits of the car. The redline on the tach is at 12 o'clock and idle speed is at 6 o'clock. Anyway, she's a sleeper. It scares the ricers when I get on it. She's a little loud. Regards, JMB... |

Josh and others...Hello! Got my '67 in March
of this year. 5 speed coupe , unknown milage, off white with black interior. I think the picture is still at 912registry.org..it's the one with the Xmas tree on top, as the previous owner was trying to sell it at that time. I can tell you that I really enjoy a lot about owning this car including the continual fix-it's. Before buying the 912 I hadn't really got down an dirty since the 1970's and my 65 Mustang. Presently the 912 is running great (tonight that is tomorrow is another day.)I cured my fan/gen noise "issues" and I'm ready for the next challenge. Hey.. I have 195/65-15 tires..3 are good and one has a wicked sidewall blister...I want to change tire size as these look too big to me but I want to wait till I scrub them down more before making the change. Anybody got a decent used 195/65 ...mine are pirelli 6000. Thanks for all the help and interest in the bulletin board Jim in Ma. ------------------ |

My 912 is a '68 polo red coupe that I have owned for 9 years. http://www.pelicanparts.com/motorcity/912_nut/
If you visit my site you'll see that I haven't been able to drive the car in years because of a complete dis-assembly, floor pan re-weld, repaint and general restoration work. I hope to have it on the road soon. It has a big bore kit, but the compression is on the low side 8.5:1. I plan to re-work it to improve the compression, add a Bursch exhaust, and possibly a different cam. If anyone has cam suggestions please post. |

Well, well, I guess my 912 has changed. Now it's a 1965 912 Coupe. The original color was irish green, which I hope to paint it this summer. It's a black interior, 3 guage w/aluminum dash. It has the original engine with 8K on the odo, so I'm guessing 108K miles. It has a 1720 big bore, 031 distributor, single shaft solexes, OEM exhaust, and those gargantuan early style air cleaners. The transmission is out of a 68 912 w/lower gears, as the original tranny is toast. Someday I plan to rebuild it (once I get the guts.) Skinny 165/15 rubber on the 4.5x15 steel wheels. Just about everything else is stock, but I do have plans. It has its own webpage at http://pcarjosh.tripod.com/project912/ and should be a fun adventure.

I found my 69 Polo Red 912 strictly by accident but it was love at first sight. I bought it in August of 2001 and am the 4th owner. It was originally delivered to Canoga Park CA in November of 69 and moved to Northern CA in the mid 90's. I have been able to contact owner #2 and he informed me his desire was to make it a show car. He replaced all the rubber, carpets and changed the color from Bahama yellow to the current Polo Red. He also had the engine rebuilt at about 58K and the car only had 63K on it now. He did swap out the Solex's for Webers and installed a Delong cam, Bursch exhaust and the Fusch wheels.
Everything else is original but it does have a Nardi wheel with Nardi's signature engraved in one of the spokes. I still have the original steering wheel that came on the car. He also put me in contact with the mechanic who did the engine rebuild, cam and exhaust work. Turns out he races VW's and has been working on 912's and VW's for 30+ years. He is only about 15 miles from me and is always willing to help me out and answer questions. Owner #3 took it from owner #2 for some $$ he was owed for a construction job in 1998. It sat in his garage with occasional weekend driving until last August when he put it up for sale. To date the only things I have done is tune up, oil change and valve adjustment. I rebuilt the ignition switch and installed a new starter that I think was fried by a short in the existing ignition switch. That and read everything on this board and anything I can get my hands on. I have also been able to contact several other 912 owners in the Bay Area and we have started our own little 912 group that is growing weekly. I love reading this board and am grateful for all of the expertise everyone is willing to share so freely. ![]() Thanks for all your knowledge folks, it truly is priceless! Craig |

Mine is a 1969 Targa. Bahama Yellow. 5 speed. It has a stock motor with an .050 distributor, K & N filters and a Bursch exhaust. I have had it lowered a good bit. Porterfield R4s pads and stainless brake lines (Ford Heavy Duty brake fluid). Weltmeister 19mm front sway bar. Adding a 19mm rear bar shortly. Weltmeister strut tower bar. Custom 15X6 chrome steel Porsche wheels with Yokohama AVS Intermediate 205/60-15 tires. It also has a personalized license plate the reads NO911NV. It can be seen at the link below:
