Post Heat exchanger

I have a '69 912 with perhaps bad heat exchangers. I have exhast fumes in the cabin when I pull up on the heat lever. I'm thinking the heat exchangers are bad. How do I remove these (looks like two bolts -- one at top and bottom)? How do I tell if they are bad? Are there other replacements that are not as expensive?

Thanks

Dave

If you have exhaust fumes in the cabin, I ink you have bad heater boxes (the ones that connect to the exhaust). Don't know if (or where) replacements are available.

Hello

Those fumes where generatet by burnt oil and are not a sign from a bad exhanger. they are a sign from a oilleak wandering inside the exhanger trough a gap or a rusthole.

Exhaust gases are hard to smell only if the mixture is to rich.

Removing them is very simple by just removing the J pipes yet it sound simple but geting on that spot says use good tools and be patient.

If you have even the slightest feeling that you're getting exhaust through the heater ducts keep that heater lever off. CO poisoning is a very subtle and extremely dangerous proposition.
