hole in 912 case behold the carnage hahaha

As I was cleaning my crankcase today, preparing for my rebuild I noticed a hole in the corner closest to the #4 cylinder. check outh the pictures. What are my options. does this need to be fixed. The only reason that I am unsure if it needs to be fixed is that ,unless it is structural, all it does is keep oil from entering the front cover from the crankcase. I don't want to have this fixed if I don't have to.

Wow that's interesting, did you find the broken piece or pieces in the crankcase? A welder with proper equipment can do the repair.

I still have a part of my crank that went completely through my case. I use it as a paperweight and reminder. The Maestro sent it to me after my "Turkey Engine" was turned into a solid powerplant.

That hole is part of the casting, its supposed to be there. What? did you have a crank break? Usually with a broken crank you loose your end play and it takes out the center main bearing. yours case looks fine.

thanks craig, thats a relief. I'm 99% sure that a crank never broke in this case. The bore is good and measues to the standard specs. The hole looks pretty clean from the outside but inside it's a little jagged as if it broke. Are all 912 cases like this?
