Couple o Questions-
Allright-
1- Seems like most engine compartments on 912's are black- mine has heavy (factory?) undercoating-like stuff OVER what is the original color. Were they black? Or did someone paint all of them? I'd like to match mine, because it looks cleaner. But I'm also going to powdercoat all my tin BlutOrange to match- so I'm kind of a freak to begin wth. 2- Also, the Carb pre-heat vents- they vent air heated by the Heat exchangers up under the manifolds- ALL THE TIME. Why aren't these thermostatically controlled? Isn't that TOO much hot air to the engine during the summer? 3- My throttle linkage in front of the fan shroud has a little clunky bit with a flap that looks like it was deisgned to partially open the throttle (at low temps?). My guess is : The flap would have been moved by a rod attached to the classic metal bellows thermostat- and it would open the throttle about 1/3 on both carbs. Anyone ever see the complete setup? It looks like they "thought about" building it, but the thermostat part never was installed. I'll post pic's when I get it back together. 4- My oil cooler was mounted completely in rubber. It had the stock rubber mount at the top, but all the case mounts had orange rubber 0-rings BETWEEN the case and oil cooler. The case looks like its machined (spot faced) for these o-rings / bushings exactly, but the cooler was tight AND leaking - it has no leaks, it was at the seals which are still very pliable. More to come- Bob O

69 and later is my direct reference.
1. Black with silver oil can, Bosch blue coil. 2. Low tech. 3. I'm not sure but I doubt it. 4. Later models buffeted the oil cooler because early 356's and 912's suffer from cracked cases do to poor design. Chas. 69/912
