F.I to CARBS "type 4 conversion to 912"

Greetings Porsche Gurus!

Im collecting parts for a type 4 conversion. I see an engine on the local paper that indicates:

-->PORSCHE 914 1.8 liter motor good condition complete except for fuel injection

How HARD is it to have CARBS in this sucker instead of fuel injection? What does it entail?
I imagine a set of carbs and manifolds?

I know i should probably post this on the 914 forums, but everyone knows that the 912 guys are cooler and smarter than the 914 guys! hahhahaa

It's not difficult, a carb kit basically "bolts on". The trick is that the distributor for the fuel injection is probably not the best thing to work with carbs, so you will need to switch over to a Bosch 050 (the 009 is not a good match to the Type 4 due to the curve, total advance, and the retard on #3 which is not needed on the T4). The cam is probably not going to give you what you want with carbs either since it is setup for EFI. However, it WILL run, but you won't be making the most of your power. For a stock 2.0L, a set of Weber 40s is more than enough. Also, you do not want to run the stock phenolic manifold spacers on carbs. Not enough heat is transferred through these to the manifolds to keep the carbs from icing up when it gets colder out. Run the thinner paper-like gaskets that come with most kits.

I'm running a fairly stout 2056 in my '69 with Dual 44 Webers, and it screams like a banshee. I'm more than happy with the conversion, and would do it again in a heartbeat (except maybe throw a stroker crank in it for a little extra punch).

Later,

G
