Weber Idle circuit worn oversize

I looked at a 68 912 over the weekend.

I just got off the phone with the garage where the car is forsale by owner.

The garage owner told me the engine is toast because it had been run with the wrong distributer and that the idle circuit in the Webers had been worn oversize causing the carbs to run rich which destroyed the rings and now the engine has no compression.

The mechanics says the carbs are worthless and that you can not repair the idle circuit once it is worn ovesize.

Is it true that the carbs are worthless and can't be fixed ?
Just curious as repleacement webers can not be cheap.
